From the Health Clinic
As we experience the change in season, it is common to be exposed to viral illness. Viruses are quickly and easily spread in the school setting. Viral flu season typically extends from late November through early March.
A chart of cold and flu symptoms is included below for your reference.
To boost the immune system and reduce your chances of becoming ill, consider adding the following measures to your family’s daily routine:
Sleep! Get a good night’s sleep, every night. The body’s immune system replenishes itself through deep, regular sleep. Encourage your child to sleep 8-10 hours each night.
Drink! At least 8 cups/1-2 L of clear liquid (water, soup, juice, herbal tea, etc.) every day. Drink more if you feel thirsty or have dry lips and skin.
Eat! Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Encourage your child to eat a variety of colors at each meal. Serve real, natural food to your child for meals and snacks.
Wash! Clean your hands with soap and water after you sneeze, cough, or use the restroom.
Exercise! Staying active, even when it’s cold outside, will help you stay healthy and strong.
Stay home! Take care of yourself and avoid sharing your illness with others by staying at home if you become ill.
TIS policy requires students to stay home with fever 37.7C/99.5F until fever free for 24 hours.

Grade Level Booths for Christmas Bazaar
As you know, every year members of the PAC and moms from each grade have participated in the Christmas bazaar by selling food and other goods. Since the PTO has not yet started, some "room mothers" have decided to organize each grade's booth. This year, we would like to join as a larger cooperative group by grade level, if possible, to prepare and run each booth with all of the moms in our grade. We want this to be a fun project where we can all come together and work for a good cause, and have a chance to get to know one another. Moreover, on the day of the bazaar, kids may also sell and run the booth with the moms.
ECC - make and sell balloons
Grade 1 - run dart game and "pick a ball" game.
Grade 2 - sell donuts.
Grade 3 - sell stationery
Grade 4 - sell cookies.
Grade 5 - sell Dduk-Ko-Chi(similar to DdukBokKi)
Grade 6 - run coin tossing game.
Grade 7 - sell baby Kimbob and fish ball soup.
Grade 8 - sell cooked eggs.
Grade 9 - run Santa’s post office.
Grade 10 - sell used books.
Grade 11 - sell triangle Kimbob and handmade quilts.
We have recently sent you an email, please check your inboxes and reply if you are interesting in helping. We look forward to many moms participation and catching up with old and new friends!

Update on SAT Scores
I want to pass on some information about the SAT test and score reporting.
The October test scores have not been released yet and many students are moving from worry to panic. CollegeBoard has not given a date that they will release scores or if they will release scores. Many students received an email from CollegeBoard with a phone number to call. If your student calls they will be given a case number and be told to call back in 7 to 10 days. They are not giving any indication whether they will releases October scores any time soon. They are communicating that they will let people know what their decision is as soon as they can but they are still investigating.
Some of the questions I am being asked. So why did this happen? How can I help my son/daughter avoid this in the future? What about the November SAT test? What can I do about my college applications?
This happened because there was wide spread cheating in the Asia region. It is thought that some corrupt school official sold a copy of the SAT test to an academy and the academy distributed it to other academies. You can help your student in two ways. If your student attends an academy that offers SAT prep they might be involved. I do not think many academies are involved and I do not think they would admit it if they were. I hope you will not support an academy if they are found to be participating in this type of activity. The second thing you can do to help your child is to use an American address if you have one. Students that used an American address have received their scores already. If you have family in America ask them if you can use their address.
CollegeBoard has not indicated they are going to delay November test scores yet. If you heard anything it is probably a rumor and please do not spread it. Your child will receive an email as soon as CollegeBoard makes a decision. If the November scores are delayed I will work with your child to help them with reporting to the college(s) of their choice. I can submit scores on behalf of your child as an acceptable short-term substitute to the official scores from CollegeBoard. This will hold their place in the admission process until CollegeBoard releases their scores.
Please encourage your child to do their best, not attend an academy if they suspect the academy has information about the test they should not have and to not spread rumors. Your child will be one of the first ones to know about score delays.
Please email me with any questions or concerns at jscranton@tiseagles.com
