Inspirations Space: WILD

Each season, Maison & Objet features a theme that connects design to a contemporary social topic, which is explored in the show’s Inspirations forum — a curated space that creatively examines how design can both aid and gain inspiration from our current times. The “WILD” theme takes the stage this year, expressing a revival of the natural and sacred world in the midst of an urbanized, technology-driven society.

Designed by Francois Bernard, the “WILD” exhibition reconnects contemporary creation, forms, and materials with the elements of Mother Earth, reinjecting “nature into the urban space”. Bernard selected inspirational objects such as rock-life, ceramic works that reproduce hand-made forms through 3D printing, and photographs by Charles Fréger that depict costumes of  European folklore, all with the purpose of connecting design to the “wild and the sacred”.

Hall 7 of Maison & Objet features some of the very best interior design and lighting companies in the world. Brabbu, pictured above, constantly produces collections of luxurious, modern furniture. Tom Dixon, a British product design brand, creates objects for everyday use, such as candlesticks and table décor, inspired by the British nation’s unique heritage.

The 2016 Designer of the Year Award went to Eugini Quitlett, a self-described dreamer and designer. He showcased his latest designs at Maison & Objet in an exhibition called Machine Man, which features a preview of Quitllet’s new products, “Dream Tools”, for homeware store Habitat and design brand Lexon. Quitlett’s dream tools are a set of four basic office items created with the mission to help people think and work more clearly.

Other rising design talents include Jonas Edvard (Denmark), Katriina Nuutinen (Finland), Farg and Blanche (Sweden), Kjartan Oskarsson (Iceland), Studio Kneip, and Troels Flensted (Denmark). From specialization in light and glass to the development of raw material, each talent has something refreshing and unique to bring to the table.

While each designer and décor collection at Maison & Objet possesses its own unique personality, all eight exhibition halls at the fair seem to fall in tune with the overall theme. Combining innovative design concepts with timeless style, fine craft, and a creative sensibility, the plethora of exhibitors at Maison & Objet Paris 2016, aid in demonstrating the ideas expressed in the “Wild” Inspirations space — to reconnect with the natural world by designing furniture and décor that reflects our wild and ever-changing world.
