Fighting Against a Bad Deal

Our main focus in Washington, D.C. this week has been on the proposed nuclear deal with Iran that the current administration negotiated in June. I stand in firm opposition to the deal because it exchanges billions of dollars in sanctions relief for half-hearted, short-term benchmarks on Iran’s nuclear program that will do nothing but embolden them and put our allies in the region in direct danger. I will continue to fight against any deal that will put the interests of a terrorist regime before our own and those of our ally Israel.

Thoughts for our Law Enforcement

On Tuesday night, I spoke on the House floor to recognize and honor the brave police officers that have fallen in the line of duty. God bless them all for their service and sacrifice. To watch the speech, click here.

Standing Up for Infants

On our first night back in Washington, D.C., the House passed H.R. 1462, the Protecting Our Infants Act of 2015. This bill would direct the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to study and develop recommendations for preventing and treating prenatal opioid abuse and neonatal abstinence syndrome. As the husband of a neonatal nurse at Antelope Valley Hospital, I was proud to support this legislation that protects our most vulnerable citizens.

Thinking Long Term on Long Range Strike

On Wednesday, I attended a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the future Long Range Strike Program. The program is very important to our community as the B-2 was rolled out over 25 years ago in the Antelope Valley and I fought to have the next bomber built in our area as well. I stressed the need to continue the program in a way that keeps costs down and still accomplishes our mission.

Visiting Plant 42

Last week I took a tour of Plant 42 in Palmdale. I met with leaders in the aerospace industry and checked out the latest aircraft being developed there. This unique site is so important to not only the Antelope Valley but it is critical to our national security as well.

Thank You SCV Rotary

In August, my office presented a certificate to Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club president Lou Esbin and SCV Rotary Club Veterans Committee Chair Jim Lentini. The recognition was in honor of the Rotary Club's dedication of a monument honoring Santa Clarita fallen from the Korean and Vietnam wars at the Rotary Garden adjacent to the Santa Clarita Activities Center.

AV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

On September 1st I had the honor of speaking at the award winning Antelope Valley Hispanic Chamber Luncheon. I talked about the importance of small businesses in our area’s economy, the need for a strong national defense policy, and about how my office can help constituents dealing with federal agencies like the Departments of Social Security, Veterans Affairs, and Immigration.

Farewell Simi Valley Interns

Thank you to all the fantastic interns in my Simi Valley District Office who recently returned to school or the job market. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication have been a huge help. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you around town.
