There is happiness is in the small things that surround us. If I’m feeling down or just in a funk, I look around and find something to celebrate. No matter where I am, I can usually almost always find at least one thing that is worth taking note of. That spark of joy doesn’t erase the pain, but it balances it a bit. Pain, discomfort, suffering, these are ever-present. There is no real escape from the fact of life. But acknowledging the good along with the bad helps the kind reach a more balanced point of view. Negativity bias means that we are programmed to accentuate the problems. Ignoring the problems isn’t a solution. Nor is false positivity or spiritual bypassing. We have to stay real and grounded and true. And that means we have to learn how to let the good in and have just as much of an impact as everything else that surrounds us.
