Psi Beta, the national honor society for community colleges, recently approved a chapter at John Wood Community College based on the outstanding achievements of its students and faculty.

The mission of Psi Beta’s national organization is professional development of psychology students through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service.

Membership in a chapter of Psi Beta requires students to rank at minimum in the top 35% of their class, earn an overall grade point average of 3.25, demonstrate high standards of personal behavior and integrity and have a genuine interest in the field of psychology.

Psi Beta offers the opportunity to participate in national, regional and local psychological association programs, including paper and poster presentations.  Members meet outstanding professional psychologists and learn more about the professional and educational choices available in the field. Psi Beta scholarships and student affiliate membership in the American Psychological Association and American Psychological Society are also made available to students participating in college chapters.

Beth Reinhardt, JWCC psychology instructor, will serve as the chapter’s advisor.

Charter members of JWCC’s Psi Beta chapter are Jeanne Jimenez of Mendon and Peggy Scarborough of Palmyra, Mo.
