After heading back to Alex’s and checking into the hotel, we set off again with Alex’s mum Jenny with us to visit St Fagans. We had paid £15 each to attend the last of the three evening openings for Christmas. Although not every building is open, there is a circular route to follow to visit those that are and are decorated and with festive activities taking place. After watching a bit of “The Snowman” cartoon in the theatre in the main visitor centre, we sing carols in the Pen-Rhiw Chapel, enjoy a hot drink, look in each of the Rhyd-y-car terrace houses (each representing a different period in time and decorated accordingly), enjoy a look round the Victorian shops and the traditional fairground (Alex and I are in stitches in the Hall of Mirrors), decorate gingerbread men in the Oakdale Workmen’s Institute, as well as listen to the brass band, look in the post office and bakehouse (another mince pie consumed), then watch singing and dancing in a Welsh Christmas traditional style outside the tollhouse. We spend around 2 hours or so looking around, really enjoy it. I am relieved to get back to Alex’s as the weather conditions on the drive back are terrible.
