Job Purpose

The collection, sorting, and storage of general and special waste from University buildings.  Re-cycling of waste items.  Liaison with waste removal contractors and recycling contractors.

Collection, transport, sorting of general waste and special waste to agreed timetables and schedules.

Sorting of waste into disposal or re-cycling containers ready for removal.

Basic liaison with contractors removing waste and re-cycled materials.

To carry out removal of all litter and other debris from kerbs, car parks, driveways, paths and other departments' compounds on main site.

Remove debris from cycle bays, enclosed cycle racks and keeping all entrances/exits of visitors' car parks clear of debris.

To clear and clean all entrances to buildings (inclusive of fire exits), removing all litter.

To clear litter and leaves from ramps and steps (inclusive of cycle ways).

To empty external litter bins.

Assist with snow and ice clearance when required, including gritting of specific areas.

Essential Skills

Basic literacy and numeracy.

Manual handling competence.

Able to follow basic schedules or work.

Ability to communicate with staff at all levels.

Able to carry out heavy physical work.

Desirable Skills

Relevant experience preferred but not essential

A driving Licence as the post could involve driving a van
