Post Type: Technical & Experimental | Faculty/PSG: Physical Sciences and Engineering | Division/Prof Service: Electronics & Computer Science | Section: NANO | Location: Highfield Campus | Post Type: Full Time | Closing Date: 31 Mar 2014 |
Applications are invited for a technician in the Centre for Hybrid Biodevices (CHB) and Zepler Institute (ZI) in the Nanoscale Systems Integration (NSI) Group within the School of Electronics and Computer Science (http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/).  The school is the largest of its kind in the UK and it was awarded the top grade (5*) for its research in Electronics and Computer Science in the 2001 national assessment of research in UK universities.

The NSI Group is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in the field of nanostructured materials and optoelectronic devices.  Current research topics include NEMS devices, spintronics, Silicon-based optoelectronics, Nanoelectronics, RF electronics and Quantum Information Technology.

You will work within CHB laboratories and the Rapid Prototyping Room (RPR) cleanroom at modern CHB laboratory and state-of-the-art Silicon nanofabrication clean room.  Although your experience base will be primarily in these areas, you should be aware of how other clean-room processes impact upon the capabilities in your systems.  The role is varied supporting staff and students from different faculties and fabrication duties in photolithography and research development.

You should have a NVQ3 or HNC or equivalent in a relevant area together with proven relevant experience of working within a scientific discipline and a basic knowledge of general laboratory work and Semiconductor fabrication processes.  Experience of working in a microfabrication clean room environment and familiarity with the specialised equipment found in a semiconductor clean room is desirable.  Willingness to learn is essential.  In this dual role of the day to day running of the CHB and RPR clean room, you will need good communication skills and the ability to work seamlessly within a range of people.
