Job Description:

Dr. Woelk's laboratory at the University of Southampton in the Southampton General Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician focused on the current strategies to cure HIV.  The primary aims of the project are to support research associated with the Collaboratory of AIDS Researchers for Eradication (CARE, https://www.delaneycare.org), as well as to forge constructs that recognize the environment in cells latently infected with HIV and destroy them.  Other projects in the Woelk lab for which research interactions will be available include the following:  Alzheimer’s disease, Asthma, Bacterial pathogenesis, human endogenous retroviruses, molecular evolution, post-traumatic stress disorder, Reverse Vaccinology, and Schizophrenia.

A Research Technician is required primarily in the area of molecular biology but with a strong understanding of bioinformatics and genomics.  The ideal candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree in a field such as molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or from a cross-disciplinary program that included one of these areas of study.  Essential skills required for this position include proficiency in the laboratory (e.g., RNA isolation, cell culture and cloning).  Individuals with additional experience in any of these areas are strongly encouraged to apply: microarray gene expression analysis, RNA-seq, miRNA analysis, ChIP-seq, siRNA knockdown, and python/perl programming.

Position Details:

The position is full time and the initial appointment is for 1 year, with funding secured for the possibility of an additional 2ndyear. Salary is commensurate with experience and in the range of £22,700 to £27,047 depending on previous experience.
