We invite applications to work on a quantitative research project investigating the use of paradata (field process data) in cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys using multilevel modelling and event history data analysis techniques. The project is funded by the ESRC.
Under the guidance of Dr Gabriele Durrant, Professor Peter Smith and Professor Frauke Kreuter, your main responsibilities will be to conduct statistical analyses and communicate findings to academic, policy and other audiences. You will also be expected to assist in the organisation of a research workshop and a short course, and to participate in research activities of the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute at the University of Southampton, e.g. participating in seminars, attending academic conferences and dissemination events. Liaison with data providers and survey agencies will also be required. You will make a strong scientific contribution by using multilevel and longitudinal data from the Understanding Society survey (http://www.understandingsociety.org.uk/ ) together with other longitudinal or cross-sectional surveys.
You will have or be close to completing a PhD in a quantitative social science discipline, or have equivalent research experience. You will also have experience of preparing and analysing large longitudinal datasets using advanced statistical methods. Previous experience of multilevel modelling is essential; experience in event history analysis and longitudinal data analysis is desirable. You will have excellent communication and team work skills, and will be expected to contribute to the publication and presentation of research findings at conferences and in articles submitted to top ranking journals. A proven interest in any of the following research areas is desirable: nonresponse in sample surveys, the use of paradata, the analysis of interviewer effects in sample surveys, the use and analysis of call record data, and the use of interviewer observation data.
