Full time (maternity cover for eight months)
This post is an eight month post to cover maternity leave of the Accreditation Officer and to provide additional help and support within the housing management service: the post splits 50:50. You will help promote and maintain student housing standards within Nottingham and also manage a small portfolio of properties under Unipol’s own housing management system for student residents.
This member of staff is an important resource within the Nottingham operation. They will need experience of housing within the City, some local knowledge in respect of knowing the Nottingham market and knowledge of local resources. Specific experience of student housing and the maintenance of standards is not essential and training will be provided.
The Housing Services Officer is a vital member of Unipol's small Nottingham team and is expected to play a full role in interacting with other staff in Nottingham as well as other Housing Management Officers in Leeds, the Senior Housing Management Officer (Procurement) who also deals with certain health and safety routines and the Housing Manager who oversees all housing management logistics.
This post is responsible for:
a) Providing essential support to the Assistant Chief Executive - Standards to operate Unipol’s accreditation Codes in Nottingham whilst the Accreditation Officer is on maternity leave (from April 2016). This involves:
o Administering the Nottingham Codes and the verification process
o Responding to enquiries about accreditation
o Maintaining record systems and databases accurately
o Liaising with landlords over the Code verification processes
o Co-ordinating inspections by others to ensure that landlords meet the standards to which they have voluntarily agreed
o Ensuring that following inspections a report back with recommendations on future actions is issued and following up Action Plans to ensuring that compliance has been achieved
o Assisting with complaints and, working closely with the Complaints Handler and the Assistant Chief Executive - Standards and helping to service the Tribunal which resolve disputes.
The Officer may be required to undertake property inspections and, if that is the case, training will be provided.
b) Managing a bespoke portfolio of shared student houses within Nottingham. All aspects of student housing management can be found within this portfolio: first year undergraduates, undergraduate returners, postgraduates and research students. Certain health and safety routines carry a high level of personal responsibility and must be carried out with accuracy and rigour.
This post requires flexibility, initiative and considerable organisation of own workload, under the guidance of the Nottingham Services Manager.
There will be a probationary period of three months. You will report to the Nottingham Services Manager. It is essential that the successful candidate must have an operable driving license and be willing to drive to fulfil the duties of the post. A mileage allowance and car parking costs will be provided as part of the post. The post is based in Nottingham but some travel to Leeds will be required for training and wider team meetings.
All those working in Unipol are employed jointly by the University of Leeds.
University Grade 5 (21,605-£25,023 p.a.) according to qualifications and relevant experience.
