About Lumos

At Lumos, we have set out on a mission to make our clothes smarter (through clever electronics integration) and connected (clothes can alert others in accidents). Our first connected product is Aster, the world’s safest cycling backpack. Cycling is the fastest growing form of commute in the world right now, with over 180 Million people commuting to work by cycle despite being able to afford a car. This does result in new problems in form of accidents between cyclists and motorists. We are making a big difference to commutes world over by making cycling safer with our new product - Aster.

By integrating safety features such as turn indicators, brake lights, high-visibility rear lights, door-me-not front lights and side profile lights, Aster is the world’s safest cycling backpack. In May-2016, Aster received pre-orders worth USD 56K in just 2 months from 38 countries. This makes Lumos one of India’s few premium hardware startups to go global at such an early stage!

The Lumos team is headed by graduates from IIT Madras, NIFT Chennai and IISc; and our single largest investor and mentor is Rajan Anandan, Managing Director of Google APAC.

About the role

Aster is a revolutionary new product that makes cycling commutes safer world over. The entire eco-system of cycling benefits from improved safety for cyclists - right from Govt. bodies promoting cycling, cycling brands, bike shops and bike retailers. The role would involve identifying specific influencers (e.g. bloggers, respected cyclists, bike shops, cycling brands) and other members of the cycling community in US and UK. The role would also involve thinking of mutually beneficial partnerships that Lumos can put in place with the above influencers (e.g. an exclusive deal with a leading retailer, or partnership where club members get a special rate). Final part of the role involves contacting the above through email/phone/Linkedin to initiate partnership discussions.

The role will teach you valuable lessons in how to set up partnerships for any startup. You’ll report directly to the CEO, and do real work. At the end of the 3 month period, you will have at least a few partnerships with tangible revenue value to show for your accomplishments.

Compensation:

For the first 3 months, the pay would be INR 15,000 per month fixed pay + success-based variable pay. Post the 3-month period, you could be appointment to a permanent position with a pay of INR 50,000 per month + variable pay (negotiable depending on success). The responsibilities and work are disproportionate to the short-term pay - this is gives you the authentic experience of starting up :). But the accomplishments in a short period will be tremendous too and if we you do a stellar job, you'll earn more from commission than from any other internship!
