World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Human Resources Specialist in WHO, Washington, D.C., United States.

The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.

Key Jobs Responsibilities

The Human Resources Specialist will perform the following functions-

Prepare exceptions to Staff Rules/waivers for approval by the HR Advisor and HR Director as applicable, verifying where a precedent has been established;

Analyze and recommend solutions to problems arising from the application of the staff rules, manual provisions and other policies and directives and/or counseling staff members as appropriate;

Manage HR Technicians and other staff assigned to Compensation and Entitlements functional area, establishing priorities and objectives, providing guidance, evaluating performance and maintaining a strong sense of team;

Review work performed by HR Technicians in PASB Management Information System (PMIS) to ensure compliance with eligibility for entitlements, benefits, contract length; address any shortcomings, take corrective measures as required, and report any findings of potential issues to HR Advisor;

Participate in formal briefings for staff members on their entitlements, benefits and conditions of service on arrival and departure from the Organization;

Oversee and verify the cases of death of retirees prepared by the CE desks, ensuring compliance with WHO and UN life insurance rules, liaising on complex cases with surviving beneficiaries / estate, life insurance companies and Pension Fund as necessary; ensure applicable life insurance forms and policies are current and maintained, and any changes are communicated to staff as necessary;

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have –

A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Psychology, Industrial Relations, Public Business Administration or a related field from a recognized university.

7 years of combined national and international experience in human resources management with emphasis, in interpretation and administration of conditions of employment at the international level.

Work experience within an international or multinational organization would be an asset.

Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.
