The International School of Uganda (ISU), turned 50 on 17th May 2017. ISU first opened its doors to 11 students in 1967 and 50 years later, the school is attended by more than 540 students from over 60 nations. To mark this milestone in our history, we celebrated by kicking off the year by publishing a coffee table book to look back at our rich history, to celebrate our community and to look forward to our shared future. We hosted a reunion of alumni, teachers and parents; an anniversary masquerade ball with staff, parents and alumni; PTA’s family fun day; and finally a birthday celebration with a whole school assembly where Alexa Mbowa (alumni, parent and board member) and Brian Kiiza (ISU scholarship student alumni) shared their memories of their time at ISU/Lincoln and how the education that they received has influenced their lives. Birthday cake followed for the entire ISU community.
Mr. William Lefes, one of the founding members of the school visited ISU in May 2017 from the USA, as the keynote speaker to our graduating Class of 2017. Mr. Lefes is now in his eighties and based on his extensive international experience he delivered a memorized speech full of valuable advice and wisdom to our students.
No matter the chapter or decade, the theme of our story has always been student-centred. ISU comes together as a committed, inclusive community of students, parents, teachers, staff and leaders in order to prepare for a world that changes with unprecedented speed. Our approaches to learning ground us in the knowledge base of the traditional disciplines. Upon this foundation we build the critical thinking skills and creativity necessary for realising opportunities, adapting to change and developing a personal moral compass.
Today ISU’s mission is to “Learn together to unlock the opportunities of a changing world.”
