Today, I’m pleased to announce Invincea has entered an agreement to be acquired by Sophos, a global leader in network and endpoint security.  The acquisition combines a Gartner Endpoint Protection MQ Leader (Sophos) with an MQ Visionary (Invincea) to form perhaps the most forward-looking security company to combat ever-evolving cyber threats.

Invincea was created to address sophisticated threats from nation state actors and cyber criminals that were successfully evading traditional network and antivirus solutions.  We understood that signature based defenses were nearing the end of their useful life, and alternative non-signature based solutions were needed.

The X by Invincea product is designed to detect and stop unknown malware and sophisticated attacks using its patented deep learning neural-network algorithms. It has been consistently ranked as among the best performing machine learning, signature-less next-generation endpoint technologies in third-party testing, rated highly both for high detection and low false-positive rates.

Sophos is recognized as a leader in endpoint protection today with an expanding set of next-generation technologies such as the signature-less anti-malware, anti-exploit and anti-ransomware technology in Intercept X and the behavior-based analytics, Malicious Traffic Detection and Application Reputation in Sophos Endpoint Protection.

The Invincea machine learning malware detection and prevention technology will be fully integrated into the Sophos endpoint protection portfolio further strengthening Sophos’ leadership in this fast growing market. The integration of Invincea technology into the Sophos Central security management platform will further enhance the Sophos synchronized security portfolio and real-time intelligence sharing.

While the acquisition represents the end of one chapter in Invincea’s history, it opens up a new exciting one; one where Invincea technology will live on to combat threats in a larger global market through Sophos’ more than 100 million users in 150 countries globally. We believe that the combination of Invincea’s industry leading machine learning and behavioural analytics with Sophos’s endpoint protection portfolio represents a significant leap forward to lead the industry in next generation endpoint protection while disrupting cyber threats to enterprises.

Ultimately, great companies are made of great teams of people. I am blessed to have been supported by an amazing executive team at Invincea, brilliant data scientists who developed the industry’s best machine learning algorithms, a world class engineering team to build a product that disrupts the adversary but not your business, a customer support team that is consistently recognized by our customers for its excellence and a marketing and sales team to bring our product to market.

Having spent a lot of time with the executive and engineering teams at Sophos, I’m confident that we will join a company with people cut from the same cloth and focused on innovation to defeat evolving adversaries. We will continue to sell and support X by Invincea as a Sophos company while integrating our capabilities into the broader Sophos portfolio of endpoint protection.

To our customers, thank you. You make innovation possible through your drive and vision to not settle for inferior technology but to acquire better cyber security solutions. To our employees, thank you for your contributions and continued dedication to making Invincea the best cyber security solution in market. To our investors, thank you for believing in a then-radical vision for transforming endpoint security through non-signature based defenses.

It’s been my unique privilege and reward of a lifetime to start and lead Invincea as we made the world of cybersecurity a better place. I’m excited to join the Sophos team and continue that tradition of innovation on a much larger scale.
