We love when we come across a business communication that not only does its job really, really well—but surprises us with its approach or sense of humor.

With a new year in our sights, we thought we’d take a li’l wander down memory lane, and revisit 5 of the most delightful and effective examples of great business communication we sniffed out in 2016.

In no particular order, here they are!



#1. A User-Friendly User’s Manual

Gather ‘round the campfire, readers, and let me tell you a quick “consumer horror story.”

You get home from the store with your brand new cell phone/TV/supersonic carrot peeler. You pull it out of the box, trembling with excitement…and your fabulous doohickey falls out in twenty pieces. Along with it comes a thousand-page instruction manual, the cover of which is emblazoned with one dreaded phrase: “Some assembly required.”

#2. The Best Customer Service to the Cutest Customer Feedback Ever

Consumer feedback too often falls through the cracks. Emails get caught in spam filters, letters languish in a corporate mailroom for months, and phone calls take you straight to a robo-caller. As a customer, it’s frustrating to feel like you’re not being heard.

#3. A Great Meeting Agenda

Not long ago, a good pal of Jellyvision’s found himself at the inaugural board meeting for a new California-based start-up called Cornershop.

At the meeting, Cornershop’s CEO Oskar Hjertonsson handed out the agenda below. Later, our pal passed it along to Amanda, our CEO, with a note saying he thought it was a perfect example of surprisingly delightful and effective business communication (i.e. the sort of thing we LOVE).

And know what? We agree! It’s a great meeting agenda!

In an effort to show how serious and worthy of your trust they are, financial institutions tend to play it safe with their communications. “Just the facts, ma’am” formal language, and nothing more.
