Commonly used for daily offerings in Bali – fresh Marigolds, rice and incense make the perfect set, seen in beautiful handmade offerings everywhere.

Butterflies will accompany you on the leisurely 2-3km stroll, and you’ll be able to take a pit stop on your way back at Karsa Kafe. Make sure to stay sufficiently hydrated and drink up before you make your way back out.

4. I spy – Find the half-submerged house in the middle of a lake at Lake Batur

You’ll be amazed at the sight that greets you at Lake Batur (a crater lake) – a place you would not imagine can be found in Asia.

Photo via soniaayulestari

The crater lake, situated on the active volcano Mount Batur, not only has clear, reflective waters that you can gaze at for ages, but it’s also home to one of the best views in Bali.

Can you find the tiny house in the lake?

Photo via aashishshah

If not, soak in the beauty of nature’s greatest water springs.

Wade or swim through the clear blue waters, but if water activities aren’t your thing, find a comfortable grassy spot by the lake to marvel at the sight of Mount Batur together.

If you want to enjoy an extended view of Lake Batur, you can stay at one of the nearby villas.

Photo viaAjunalit

Romantic dining is also available here at Resto Apung!

Resto Apung is located on the shore of Lake Batur but you can choose (who wouldn’t?) to eat on the gazebo – built on a platform that skims the lake’s surface, and connected to the restaurant by a walkway.

Photo via cristiana herys, yan ambone

The most striking aspect of dining here, is of course the unusual location – cool fresh air, the peaceful silence that cloaks the lake, Mount Batur rising over the world and the changing light over the water.

And the food is nothing to scoff at. You can feast on Indonesian cuisine – the fried chicken and goreng pisang are divine, and fish is served up fresh from the lake itself.

Lake Batur

Getting there: You can either take a 30-minute drive to Lake Batur (in Kintamani) from Ubud or join one of the many private tours to Lake Batur and Mount Batur. Tourist shuttle buses between southern Bali and Lovina stop off at Kintamani. Coordinates here

7. Find hidden beauty with the beauty by your side – Chill out at unknown beaches

As an island, Bali is naturally known for its beach life and activities. But with the influx of tourists, mainstream beaches such as the Kuta beach are already overflowing with people.

So if you’re after a bit of peace and quiet (note: intimate time with your partner without a noisy crowd), it’s time to head on to Bali’s various hidden beaches that, thankfully, have yet to gain the notice of many.

If you’re fond of shell collecting at beaches, Gunung Payung is one hidden beach in Nusa Dua that will cater to your needs.

Gunung Payung Beach (Photo via yhan noer, anggayudatana)

The Amed beach, on the other hand, is perfect for those who want something different – due to volcanic deposits painting the grains of sand a sooty black. (It’s something like the infamous black sand beach in Iceland too!)

Amed beach (Photo via winakeys315, ajustbram)

And if you’re looking for something even more out of this world, head to Green Bowl beach, where you can find hundreds of bats sleeping in the many beachside caves.

8. Serenity and Scenery – Tamblingan Lake

Near the town of Singaraja lie Tamblingan (and Buyan) Lake.

Kept largely untouched, Tamblingan Lake, which means spiritual medicine, is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a place of serenity and stunningly scenic views.

Photo via Apel Photography

Apart from that, it’s also a pretty popular place for pre-wedding photography. While you might not be here to get your photos taken, romance does await at Tamblingan Lake.

Breathe in the fresh cold air, and trek through the rain forest full of flora and fauna, there’s much to be seen and done.

If you wish, you may even rent boats for fishing, or simply to row around the magnificent lake.

Photo via bali pixtura

As you walk around the area, you will also find many seating areas for you to relax and have a hearty chat with your love.

With wooden tables and benches scattered around the area, it’s definitely a great place for a nice stroll or a mini picnic where you can gaze at the sky, spot shapes in the clouds, and let your imagination wander.

9. Do good on Valentine’s and become a turtle mom/dad! – Adopt a turtle family

Fancy being a Dad or Mom to a baby turtle?

Head down to the Turtle Conservation and Education Centre in Pulau Serangan, where it’s possible for you to “adopt” a baby turtle before setting it free back into the sea.

Not only is it a pretty romantic thing to do with your partner, it also helps to save the lives of the baby turtles, who may become territorial as they grow up and end up attacking each other.

Photo via arinanustajeva, nickorastan

The hatchlings are also easy prey for crabs, seagulls and humans, of course, especially during their first journey from the beach to the open sea.

Watching these newborn creatures return to their natural habitat for the first time can be very inspiring yet emotional at the same time.

And coupled with the sunset in the horizon, it will be an unforgettably special experience for you and your loved one.

This initiative aims to combat plummeting turtle numbers, and is now an extremely popular activity amongst tourists.

Turtle adoption is also available at the Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary, on the neighbouring island of Gili Meno, so if your first turtle-freeing experience was memorable for you, why not do it again?

The more adventurous couple might even want to climb up the twining roots around the trunk of the giant tree.

Some food for thought – the Balinese believe spirits live in banyan trees, and according to legend, locals used to hide in the tree from the Dutch during the occupation.
