A clever new campaign is making life just a bit easier for those experiencing abuse in the home by giving them a way to announce their situation without making their attackers aware of their cry for help.

The Black Dot Campaign was created by an English woman when she realized many others had suffered the same forms of domestic abuse she had, and similarly saw no way of getting help without alerting their abusers, and thereby, putting themselves at greater risk.

“The Black Dot Campaign encourages those subject to domestic violence to draw a simple black dot on the palm of their hands as a sign to alert others to their situation,” explains the campaign’s Facebook page.

When you live with your abuser, getting help can be much harder than it is for those who are victims of violence outside of the home.

AWM reported:

Our home is supposed to be our haven. The place we go to get away from the stresses and problems of the world. But sadly, this is not the reality for thousands of Americans. For many, their home is a place of abuse and violence. Where others drink to excess, abused them, both physically and verbally, and make their life a living hell.

Because these victims live with their abusers, getting help is difficult. They risk experiencing heightened abuse if the offender finds out the victim is seeking help. They may even get killed, if the person is dangerous.

If you see someone who has bravely drawn a black dot on the palm of their hand, alert authorities to their situation as soon as possible.

There is every probability that time is of the essence and the victim may not have much time left before their cry for help is noticed by their attacker.
