Right now the warehouse of Kim Store is locked up by the BOC for further investigation. Reports also mentioned that personnel of Kimstore in the warehouse failed to show import permits of the devices mentioned.
“There are plenty of cases wherein high-end communication and electronic gadgets are smuggled into the country through misdeclaration schemes – a top form of smuggling – used by smugglers to defraud and avoid paying correct duties and taxes to the government,” Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Neil L. Estrella said.
Hopefully, this isn’t a once in a blue moon act for the BOC as there are many online stores similar to Kimstore’s business model. The BOC should be more strict in gadgets getting imported especially for fake phones and accessories as they destroy the local business of gadget trading.
