Supporting the academic mission of Lafayette College, the Student Wellness Coordinator (formerly titled the Alcohol and Other Drugs Program Assistant) is a student development educator and a critical member of the Division of Campus Life who actively collaborates with colleagues across the College to create learning opportunities for all dimensions of contemporary student wellness. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Student Wellness Coordinator is a part-time position (10 months; approximately 20hrs/week) that coordinates the College’s student health and wellness program, including an alcohol and other drugs prevention and education program, that encourages students to think critically about health decision-making and taking meaningful action to increase positive, health-related behaviors. As a residential, liberal arts college, the Student Wellness Coordinator will develop, implement, and assess programs related to leading health and wellness indicators as described in the Healthy Campus 2020 initiative, with an emphasis on prevention and lifelong learning (see: http://www.acha.org/healthycampus/). The Coordinator is also a member of the Dean of Students’ direct report group and will take direction from the College’s Behavioral Health and Safety Review Team in creating prevention and response programs, the Alcohol and Other Drugs Standing Committee, and collaborate closely with other professionals in the Division of Campus Life, including student involvement, gender and sexuality programs, financial aid, and the Connected Communities Program staff.

Accountabilities:

Coordinates the College’s student wellness programs and processes, including the overall management and development of a contemporary health and wellness program, within the confines and limitations of a half-time position.

Lead new efforts to design implement, and evaluate programs and activities that support the personal and professional health and wellbeing of students

Collaborates with other professionals, including student involvement and leadership, gender and sexuality, financial aid, civic engagement, career services, new student orientation, and others to create and evaluate programs that promote student wellness across all dimensions of wellness (Hettler’s 6 Dimensions of Wellness; Travis’ 12 Dimensions of Wellness; Seligman’s PERMA Model of Wellbeing; or, Swarbick’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness) that encourages flourishing, thriving, and resiliency

Recruit, supervise, select, and train the Lafayette College Drug and Alcohol Peer Advisers (L-DAPA’s) and explore the feasibility of developing a new student wellness peer counseling group

Design, implement, and coordinate the BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) program for Lafayette in collaboration with the student conduct case administrators

Ensure the implementation and assessment of a comprehensive AODS education and prevention programs for Lafayette College, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents

Ensure the implementation of the biennial review of AOD programs for the Department of Education (due in 2016)

Ensure timely and accurate quarterly reports for the existing, two-year grant from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board

Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to develop new projects and campaigns with the specific goal of reducing high risk drinking and the negative implications of such use on all students

Implement the annual launch of the on-line modules related to AODS and sexual assault (AlcoholEdu and Haven) and ensure student compliance with courses

Develop marketing campaigns to promote healthy lifestyle and participation in ongoing wellness programs, broadly defined

Serve as a resource for campus-wide strategy wellness assessment

Represents the Dean of Students on various College committees and projects as assigned

Serve on the College’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Standing Committee, including chairing sub-committees and helping to advance the AODSC’s strategic objectives in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and drug and alcohol peer advisers

When asked to serve on various committees, fully participate, attend meetings, keep supervisor updated about involvement and progress, and represent the dean of students as appropriate

Contribute to the advancement of the mission of the College and the strategic objectives and learning outcomes of the Division of Campus Life

Collaborate with the other members of Campus Life

Collaborate with other key campus offices, faculty, and staff on applicable issues/topics

Partner with the Title IX and Equity Coordinator on issues of sexual violence prevention education

Serve on Division and College-wide committees, as requested by the Dean of Students and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in higher education administration or student affairs, public health, health psychology, health education, or the equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Two years of experience in student affairs, preferably in health promotion, health education, or wellness program management.

Familiarity with contemporary college student issues.

Demonstrated commitment to creating inclusive environments.

Experience with learning outcomes development and the assessment of outcomes.

Demonstrated ability to network and work cooperatively with faculty and staff colleagues.

Strong organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization capabilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in a selective, residential, liberal arts college

Experience managing a comprehensive wellness program, development and presentation of population-specific health topics related to wellness across the undergraduate experience

Certified Health Education Specialist (C.H.E.S.) credentials

Familiarity with ACHA’s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education.

Compensation

Hourly rate (non-exempt position) commensurate with experience and qualifications. Two months of non-work will be divided among December, January, and July (negotiable)
