Welcome back to hockey and to your first 2017 issue of Your Team Scene. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that you are excited to be heading into the last regular season games and gearing up for playoff season. With that in mind, if you are involved in house league hockey, we’ve included a link in the following pages to our Playoff Timing document, which may help you plan your schedule.

Inclement Weather Policy
A reminder as we head deeper into winter!
In instances when the jurisdiction of the Mississauga Hockey League is subjected to severe weather that requires consideration of the cancellation of the MHL League games the following notification procedure will be followed:
Any Decision relating to the cancellation of games will be made by 3pm on a weeknight, 10:00 am Saturday or 3:00 pm Sunday.
If a decision is made to cancel games, the MHL will forward notification through the following means:
Notification of Area Association Presidents
Posting on the MHL website
On weekdays, any cancellation of games will be posted on the MHL website the moment the decision to cancel games is made.
Parents and team officials are requested NOT to call the MHL office or City Facilities about the potential cancellation of games. The official notification system is via the MHL website and email.
In the absence of a cancellation notice being posted on the MHL website by 3:00pm on weekdays or 2 hours before the scheduled game on weekends, parents, players and teams should assume that the League games will be played as scheduled.
Most importantly, the MHL encourages parents to leave enough travel time to arrive safely and drive according to the weather conditions.
Mississauga Hockey League Playoffs
House League playoffs are scheduled to commence:
on Saturday 4, 11, 18 or 25 depending on the number of teams in your division.

A level playoffs are scheduled to commence as follows:
Atom, Peewee, Midget Sr. – Monday, February 6:
All series are 6 points unless otherwise noted. All games have a 10 minute overtime if tied after 36 minutes. Teams can expect to play QF games 1-2 during the week of Feb 6-9 and QF games 3-5 during the week of Feb 13-16 with game 5 on Thursday Feb 16 if necessary.
SF should start Tuesday Feb 21.
Minor Novice & Novice Gold, Minor Atom, Minor Peewee, Minor Bantam & Bantam, Minor Midget, Midget Jr.) – Monday, February 13:
All series are 6 points unless otherwise noted. All games have a 10 minute overtime if tied after 36 minutes. Teams can expect to play games QF 1-2 during the week of Feb 13-16 and QF games 3-5 during the week of Feb 20-23 with game 5 on Thursday Feb 23 if necessary.
SF should start Monday Feb 27.
Playoff games appear in the schedule with the code “PO” at the right hand side of the game listing. Only playoff games count towards qualification into Championship Weekend (March 24-26, 2017).
Reminder there are NO MHL GAMES on Family Day (Feb 20) or during March Break (March 10-19, 2017)

Level 3 Upgrade Seminar
We would like to congratulate the following MHL Officials who have been selected by the MHL Referee Supervisor Committee to attend the Ontario Hockey Federation Level 3 upgrade seminar hosted by the GTHL in January. The seminar will also include selected officials from the GTHL and NYHL. We wish them the best of luck.

MHL Challenge Tournament
April 6-9, 2017
Now that the New Year has arrived, you know that the end of regular season and the start of playoffs is just around the corner. Plan to end your year with a local tournament that’s in its 15th year – our own MHL Challenge. We have openings in all divisions: Minor Novice and Novice Select/Red, Minor Atom and Atom Select/Red and Minor Peewee and Peewee Select/Red. All games are played at the Hershey Centre. Reserve your team’s spot now and spread the word to other teams you may meet at tournaments in the next few weeks.

Peel Police take down hockey coaches in the name of fun and charity
The Applewood Hockey Association held its annual coaches challenge on Friday, December 9th and although the Peel Police came out on top on the scoreboard, the real winner was the Mississauga Food Bank.
With the help of players and spectators this fun event generated 965 lbs of food for the food bank.
Dropping the ceremonial puck was Mark Zizek, President of theApplewood Hockey Association, Brian Webster, President of the Mississauga Hockey League, Chris Fonseca, Ward 3 Councillor and Mississauga Steelheads mascot, ‘Sauga.
This was the first year that the coaches played the Peel Police but you can be sure that the Applewood coaches are looking to redeem themselves next year with a rematch for more fun and charity.

Port Credit teams show their Christmas spirit
The Port Credit Peewee A Team (PC70) held their Christmas lunch on Sunday, December 11th at the Clarkson Pump. A great time was had by all. The team also worked to support the Clarkson Pump & Patio’s food drive by bringing in 17 bags of food.
The Port Credit Minor Atom A team showed how happy they were to drop by Peel Police Erin Mills station to drop off unwrapped toys for their Christmas toy drive.

Port Credit PeeWee A wins Aeros PeeWee AA Tournament
The Port Credit PeeWee A Team (PC70), put themselves out there and entered the Toronto AEROS PeeWee AA Tournament this past weekend. They opened up the tournament playing the Sudbury Wolves which was a chippy and physical game and came out on top with a score of 5-1. The second game was against the Lansing Spartans who were much quicker and really pushed back. 3 goals in 1 minute and 11 seconds apart along with great goal tending got PC70 the 4-0 Shut Out win. Game 3, was against another US team, the Rocky River Pirates which was also a fast paced game and our team came out on top 3-1 despite a late press by the Pirates. In the last round robin game, the Newmarket Redmen came out hungry and it was a hard played game with lots of speed and physical play, and again great goal tending led to the 1-0 shut out win by PC70. The Tournament Championship was a rematch against the Newmarket Redmen, with PC70 coming out on top 3-2 for a great AA Tournament win.
The team lived by their motto for the weekend: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
Congratulations to our PC PeeWee A team in winning the Toronto Aeros PeeWee AA Winter Challenge Tournament with a 5-0 Record!!
Port Credit Storm Minor Midget Red win at Streetsville
The Port Credit Storm Minor Midget Red team, PC101, recently won the Streetsville Christmas Tournament.
They were undefeated in the tournament defeating Streetsville Stingers 6-2, West Mall Lightning 9-1, the
Phantom Wolves 7-5 and then again defeating the Streetsville Stingers 4-0 in the Championship Final game.
Lorne Park Clarkson Minor Novice Red win at Milton
December 27-29 the LPC Wild Minor Novice Red Team won the Novice division Tournament Championship.
Playing up an age group the Minor Novice Red team had a perfect record of 5-0 with 17 goals for and 2 goals against. The championship was won in sudden death overtime 1-0.
The parents, coaching staff and club are very proud of our team. The players represented the LPC Wild club and MHL with tremendous pride.
Phantom Wolves Minor Bantam Red win at Streetsville
The Phantom Wolves Minor Bantam Red team was successful at the Streetsville Christmas Classic. The Wolves skated to a 2 and 1 record in the round robin, securing a spot in the final against the Acton Chargers. The championship game was a hard fought defensive battle. The opposition scored first on the power play halfway through the third period. The Wolves never gave up and scored to tie the game with 2 minutes left in regulation. Then they were off to 4 on 4 overtime, where the Wolves would score 4 minutes into the overtime frame to win the championship.
