Urban Sketchers Singapore has been mapping our home island in Singapore, one sketch at a time. From quaint streets and alleyways to everyday city bustle, they capture the poignant perspectives of our Singapore life. This August and September, the Urban Sketchers invited the community to join them in a series of sketchwalks to SG Heart Map places across our island. They have explored, drew and shared some of the favourite hang-out spots, and re-discovered why we love this place we call HOME.

Highlights
Civic District
More than 80 people took part in the first SG Heart Map Sketchwalk on 15 August 2015. Led by Tia Boon Sim and Zaihan Kariyani from Urban Sketchers Singapore, the participants embarked on a discovery journey to explore the many interesting hang-out spots in the civic district.
From the meeting point at The Arts House, the participants started to capture the beauty of the city scape with their pens, pencils, drawing kits and sketch books as they explored this historical district.
Terrez and Hui Yan were among the 80 who took part in this outdoor sketch event for the first time. Another first-timer, Ben, also expressed that the experience was refreshing and he looked forward to joining the next sketchwalk at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
The first SG Heart Map Sketchwalk ended on a high note when participants shared their beautiful sketches with one another at the finishing point.
Singapore Botanic Gardens
It was a beautiful Saturday morning where more than 90 participants turned up for the second SG Heart Map Sketchwalk at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 22nd August 2015.
Being the first Botanic Gardens in Asia to be conferred the title as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is no surprise that Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the 50 SG Heart Map Places endeared by Singaporeans and a favourite hang-out place to many. This morning, the sketchers were thrilled to explore the different pockets of the gardens to capture the beauty of this symbolic greenery on their sketch books.
Hong Ming, Wendy and Jia.er were among the first-timers who joined the sketchwalk today. To Hong Ming, it was an interesting outdoor experience and for Wendy, this was a good session to unwind from her hectic work schedules. As for Jia.er, she just came back from London for a short vacation and was excited to join her friends Fabian and Gerald for the sketchwalk this morning. Another sketcher, Ben, who joined the first session last week, kept his enthusiasm going and participated in the second sketchwalk at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
To end off the sketchwalk, participants gathered at the Green Garden Corner and shared their magnificent works of art with one another.
Clementi Town
Named after Sire Cecil Clementi Smith, the Governor of the Straits Settlement from 1887 to 1893, Clementi is one of Singapore’s oldest HDB Towns. The town centre with good mix of commercial and community facilities such as Clementi Mall has now become a favourite hang-out place for the Clementi residents.
This morning on 29 August 2015, some 80 enthusiasts, including students from Queensway Secondary School and Commonwealth Secondary School, participated in the third SG Heart Map Sketchwalk at Clementi.
Started at the buzzing town centre, participants moved in small groups to the various hang-outs such as the hawker centre and coffeeshops to capture the different faces of the town onto their sketch books.
Some participants even ventured as far as the Ulu Pandan Park Connector where they could capture the Sunset Way Railway Bridge.
Towards the end of the session, the sketchers were eagerly putting final touches to their sketches.
The participants were ready to share the amazing sketches of Clementi with one another at the finishing point.
Patrick Ng, who has contributed a heart-warming story to SG Heart Map about the wonderful time he had with his son at a playground in Clementi, was among the some 80 participants on this sketchwalk.
Singapore Changi Airport
Due to the prevailing haze situation, the SG Heart Map Sketchwalk on 26 September 2015 was shifted indoors to Singapore Changi Airport.
Some 70 participants joined the fourth and also the last SG Heart Map Sketchwalk at the Singapore Changi Airport this morning. Opened in 1981 following the closure of Paya Lebar Airport, Singapore Changi Airport is now a major air hub in Asia.
More than just a gateway to the world, the sketchers were eager to capture the soaring interior spaces, views out to the open landscape and planes in slow motion, as well as the plenty of eateries and cafes on their sketchbooks.
Beginning from Terminal 3, the sketchers explored the entire airport by foot and Sky Train, in cool comfort and out of the haze.
The multifaceted destination in itself provides great inspirations to the sketchers as they painted the many rich human stories here.
At the end of the session, the participants showcased their beautiful works to one another and shared what they’ve captured of our beloved airport.
Terrez who had participated in all the SG Heart Map Sketchwalks shared that today's session at the airport was an enjoyable and relaxing one. She was also eager to submit her works to SG Heart Map for selection so that one of her creations could be showcased at the SG Heart Map Festival @ Float this November!
