HealthCorps alumni to be featured on The Dr. Oz Show
NEW YORK, NY (November 22, 2016) – HealthCorps, a national health and wellness nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa, announces that HealthCorps alumni Ryan Fightmaster and Camille McGirt will be featured on eight-time Emmy award winning The Dr. Oz Show on November 28.
Ryan Fightmaster and Camille McGirt worked as part of HealthCorps’ in school program, The Living Labs, as HealthCorps Coordinators. They were placed in a high-needs high school for two years to mentor students, teach health related workshops and promote wellness related school activities.
“Ryan and Camille speak to the quality of people who choose to become HealthCorps Coordinators. Our Coordinators are driven, energetic and committed to spreading the HealthCorps mission in their communities. I congratulate them on their accomplishments and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them,” said Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Ryan Fightmaster is a third-year medical student at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. From 2012-2014, he served as a HealthCorps Coordinator at ASTEC Charter High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is the founder and host of the Real Life Diabetes podcast and runs his own blog, Diabetes Daily Grind. Both discuss living a healthy life with diabetes. While at ASTEC Charter High School, he began running 5Ks with students which inspired the creation of the school’s cross-country team.
Camille McGirt is a second-year Masters of Public Health student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She served as a HealthCorps Coordinator at South Shore High School in Brooklyn, NY from 2013-2015. She will begin work as a Management Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in Summer 2017. She is the Founder and Co-Executive Director of Healthy Girls Save the World, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting healthy minds, bodies and relationships for middle school girls in North Carolina.
A recent study of HealthCorps alumni data found that 25% of HealthCorps alumni have pursued careers in medicine and nursing, 23% work in public health and other healthcare fields, 14% work in education, 12% work in the non-profit sector, 3% work in law and 23% of alumni have gone on to pursue careers in other fields such as culinary arts, finance and marketing.

About healthcorps
HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization that gives teens tools to improve physical and mental health so they can learn to live more productive and happier lives. HealthCorps students exercise more, eat better and practice positive thought. The program will impact almost 1 million students across 19 states in 2016.
The HealthCorps curriculum has been refined and developed in its in-school Living Labs program since 2003, where a full-time Coordinator is placed inside a high-need high school for two years to mentor hundreds of students, teach health related workshops, and promote a variety of during and after school activities. Coordinators are recent college graduates who go on to careers in medicine, public health policy or wellness practices.
HealthCorps University is an intense professional development program that certifies participants to bring HealthCorps’ innovative health and wellness curriculum to their organization whether it’s a school system, community organization or corporation. In 2015, HealthCorps teamed with CK-12 to distribute free, interactive and customizable versions of the HealthCorps curriculum for educators and students to use.
