To better reflect its importance as a fully integrated member of the Geisinger Family, Holy Spirit Hospital has been renamed Geisinger Holy Spirit.

“Since we joined Geisinger in 2014, we have made great progress in adding and expanding specialty medical services and programs to care for the people in our communities who place their trust in us,” said Kyle Snyder, chief administrative officer at Holy Spirit.

Those new programs include breast care, neurosurgery, multidisciplinary weight management, nutrition and bariatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, pulmonary medicine, plastic surgery and surgical oncology.

Through the hospital’s affiliation with Geisinger Health System, advanced technology available to Holy Spirit patients now includes the newest and most sophisticated Gamma Knife Icon system, state-of-the-art endoscopic ultrasound, nuclear hybrid scanning for heart evaluation and 3D mammography services.

Additionally, patients now have more access to primary care practices that opened in Boiling Springs, Colonial Park and New Cumberland, and pediatric practices are now available in Carlisle and Colonial Park. Pediatric specialists from Geisinger’s Janet Weis Children’s Hospital began offering care for dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, neurodevelopment and orthopedic surgery in Mechanicsburg and neurology/epilepsy services in Camp Hill.

In 2015, the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital at Holy Spirit opened its doors to the community. This inpatient unit is an extension of the services at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

A major construction project is also currently underway in preparation for Geisinger Holy Spirit to become a designated level II trauma center. In addition, Holy Spirit EMS expanded its service area to include Danville and Minersville.

Additional technology upgrades at Geisinger Holy Spirit include medical practices now using Epic, one of the most highly integrated electronic health record systems available, providing higher levels of security, safety and rapid health information exchange. Patients now also have access to MyGeisinger, an online patient portal that provides secure access to patient records, provider communication and allows patients to view test results and request an appointment or prescription refills. In May, Geisinger Holy Spirit will introduce Epic throughout the hospital.

Geisinger Holy Spirit continues to benefit from the expertise of its local board of directors and the sponsorship of the Sisters of Christian Charity, as well as Geisinger’s nationally recognized accomplishments. Representatives from each organization sit on the Geisinger Health and Geisinger Holy Spirit boards of directors.

“Our new name honors our Holy Spirit history and Catholic tradition of providing high quality, compassionate care for our patients. We look forward to deepening our partnership with Geisinger, and working alongside each other to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve,” Snyder said.
