Landscapes of Persia.

Persia was internationally renamed in 1935 to Iran, The Persians have always called their region “The land of the Arians”, from which the name “Iran/Aryan” comes. Historically, Iran has always been the local name for that region for millenniums, but later under subsequent Greek influence became internationally known as “Persia” (named after the province of “Pars” in Iran from where the Achaemenid Persian Kingsand Queensruled over half the known world.)

On 21 March 1935, the ruler of Persia, King Pahlavi I, officially requested all foreign governments to no longer refer to “Iran” as “Persia” and it nearly took 25 years (until 1959) for the entire world to officially recognize and use the new term “Iran”.

Iran is a wide country in southwest/central Asia neighboring the Caspian Sea with landscapes that vary remarkably at different seasons. All southern borders of the country end to the shores of the Persian Gulf and Sea. Iran lies in a continental climate with great diversities and it has all the climates of the world in a single vast country with regions with different temperatures even at a specific period of time: Temperatures ranging from as low as minus -18°C in the north upto +50°C in the south.

It is a land of unique landscapes such as limpid water springs, Pomegranate orchards, pistachio gardens, rows of Lombardy poplars, decampment of nomads in different seasons, cheliferous nights, rocks, mountains, endless high and low lands, extinct volcanoes, luxuriant forests of Alborz mountain range, and coastlines of the Caspian sea are among the eye-catching and memorable landscapes of Iran’s nature which leaves unique memories in the minds of tourists.

Iran is a popular skiing destination in Asia, not only for the local skiers, but also for people from around the world. The things which have made skiing in Iran popular are the high altitude of its ski resorts, the long lasting skiing seasons, and the powdery snow that can be found there. There are a lot of ski resorts in Iran, many of which have been located in the Albors Mountains, thus near around the capital city of Tehran.

Iran is a mountainous country, and its highest peak reaches a towering 5,671 meters (higher than just about any hill in Europe). And where there’s elevation, there’s usually plenty of pow: up to 7 meters (275 inches) of light, dry snow are reported each season.

Damavand :: The highest mountain in Persia. You will see it when you fly into Tehran

“You probably haven’t heard much about skiing in Iran! Well, there’s this place called Dizin. The snow is always light, dry, champagne powder. You can really rip in it. And, The advanced runs are awesome. I’ve skied all over the U.S., but this place has a special feel to it. Not to mention 3000 feet of vertical, way up above the tree line. Bowls, bowls, and more bowls. This place rocks, baby! Just whip out your super-sidecuts or your fatties and indulge. No Aspen glitz or glamor. Skiing the way it should be.” /tourist
