Hamilton Police Deploying ATV Unit

The Hamilton Police Service (HPS) will be directing the police All-Terrain Vehicle Unit (ATV Unit) to identified areas of concern in Division 3 to assist with the increase in complaints and calls for service regarding Off Road Vehicles (ORVs), including “dirt bikes” and ATVs.

Over the next four months the HPS will be out on ATVs to patrol identified areas throughout Division 3.  Division 3 includes the Hamilton Mountain as well as Ancaster, Flamborough, Binbrook, Glanbrook, Mt Hope, Dundas and Waterdown.

The goal is to ensure the safety of the public, ensure the safety of those riding ORVs, and to ensure the riders are complying with the law.

Under the current City of Hamilton By-Laws the operation of ORVs on the City of Hamilton roadways is prohibited.  There are exemptions for farmers, public works employees, and land owners travelling between portions of their own property.

Please ask permission prior to riding your ORV on someone else’s property and always be respectful of property owners and other riders.

If you have any further questions please contact the Hamilton Police, Division 3 Crime Managers office at (905)-546-2447, or stop into Station 30 located at 400 Rymal Rd E, Hamilton to pick up your ORV pamphlet.

If you have any information that you would like to report regarding ATV use please contact Hamilton Police Division 3 Crime Managers at (905)-546-2447. To remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit tips online http://crimestoppershamilton.com
