Monday 7th March 2016

I’m not one to gossip but….We have just returned after spending a month in America, doing interviews and stories, best of all spending four days in Disneyland…say no more!

Somboon and I booked a state room on the Queen Victoria which was doing her world trip from Southampton to Southampton. We joined the ship in America and cruised back to New Zealand.

What a beautiful ship the Queen Victoria is, a wonderful elegant way to cruise if you ever get the chance to sail on her – just go for it.

Must say after a month away, I’m finding it hard to get back into

work..funny that!

The late Robin Williams has been honoured by the San Francisco Bay Area with a special tribute almost two years after his death.

The late comedian – who lived and tragically died in Marin County – has been

recognised with a new homage to his life and career with a renaming of the

famous Waldo tunnel.

The passage connects the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, and is now

known as the Robin Williams Tunnel months after government officials

revealed their plans.

It is touching that it was previously nicknamed the Rainbow Tunnel – due to the colours on the outside arch – given the actor’s costume in Mork & Mindy featuring rainbow braces.

Williams sent shockwaves around the world when he committed suicide in August 2014 at the age of 63.

Cynthia Nixon would love to step back into the shoes of attorney and mom

Miranda Hobbs in another Sex and the City movie.

‘I would love to do it,’ the actress told E! Online over the weekend at the

Independent Spirit Awards.

Nixon says she is asked by fans all the time when there is going to be

another film featuring Miranda, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis).

The first feature film featuring the adventures of four best friends in New York City came in 2010 and was a box office sensation. The 2012 sequel, while still quite profitable, was not as successful as the first movie and put a question mark on whether there would ever be a third big screen instalment.

The original TV series ran on HBO from 1998 through 2004. Nixon says she’s on board for another movie if series creator “Michael Patrick King thought there was a story there that he wanted to write and tell.’

But don’t ask Nixon to come up with a future for her character and that of the other ladies. ‘I do not have a story in mind,’ she says. ‘Luckily that’s not my department.’

Nixon was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award this year for her performance as a woman dying of cancer in the film James White.

She didn’t win but her trophy shelf is already quite impressive with a Tony Award for the play Rabbit Hole, Emmys for Sex and the City and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and a Grammy Award for best spoken word album for reading for An Inconvenient Truth.

The 69-year-old Sylvester Stallone who starred in the movie Creed was

nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2016 Oscars last week, but the

award went to Mark Rylance for his role in Bridge of Spies.

Sylvester posted an encouraging note on Instagram following the ceremony

that showcased his positive attitude despite the loss.

“To all the ‘real Rocky’s’ of the world, Please hang on to your dreams,

NEVER GIVE IN , NEVER GIVE OUT , NEVER GIVE UP! thanks for the support,” he wrote.

Amy Adams looks super sultry on the April 2016 cover of British GQ magazine.

Here’s what the 41-year-old actress shared with the mag:

On David O. Russell making her cry during American Hustle filming: He did. I was really just devastated on set. I mean, not every day, but most.

Jennifer (Lawrence) doesn’t take any of it on. She’s Teflon. And I am not Teflon. But I also don’t like to see other people treated badly.. It’s not ok with me. Life to me is more important than movies. It really taught me how to separate work and home. Because I was like, I cannot bring this experience home with me to my daughter.

On knowing she was being paid less than her male co-stars: Yeah, I did. I didn’t speak about it before and I’m probably not going to speak about it forever, because I disagreed with, not Jennifer per se, but people who had opinions on how women should go about negotiating. The truth is we hire people to negotiate on our behalf, men and women. I knew I was being paid less and I still agreed to do it because the option comes down to do it or don’t do it. So you just have to decide if it’s worth it for you. It doesn’t mean I liked it.

On Jennifer’s open letter addressing the pay gap: I’m really proud of Jennifer. What I liked is that it was not necessarily about getting paid, or not getting paid. It’s like we [women] have been conditioned to not be controversial, to not cause problems. It’s about finding your voice.

Rihanna looks fierce as she channels her inner country girl on the cover of British Vogue magazine’s April 2016 issue.

On her new show collection with Manolo Blahnik: “The day I see a woman in the street wearing my shoes, I am sorry for that woman because I’m going to literally run after her, shouting, ‘Stop! Selfie! Who are you? Where did you get them?’ I’m going to have a moment! Those boots are dangerous! If you’re trying to get back home to your bed, don’t wear them boots! You will get kidnapped in those boots, those boots are trouble.”

On her mother Monica: “Oh my goodness, my mother – she is a woman’s woman. I was obsessed with everything she did then, everything she wore, her scent, her shoes and her scarves. That was the glamour I wanted to be part of.”

We had to laugh at the National Enquirer story accusing Leonardo DiCaprio of “Oscar worthy hypocrisy” when it comes to saving the planet.

In his Oscar acceptance speech Leo rambled on about climate change and the need for everyone to work together. (Meaning everyone but HIMSELF!) The Enquirer quoted Leo as saying “Our planet cannot be saved unless we leave fossil fuels in the ground where they belong!”

Yet Leo doesn’t give up his OWN comforts. The tabloid pointed out that Leo consistently flies by PRIVATE JET and frequently is seen lounging on gigantic yachts that guzzle enormous quantities of fuel. Of course he owns huge homes and properties in New York

and LA that use massive amounts of water and electricity. But he cares about the environment, so he wants US to conserve!

Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova is coming back to life again – on Freeform.

Deadline reports that the network is developing a series from McG based on

the once thought missing Grand Duchess.

The series will be set in vibrant Paris during the roaring 1920’s, and follows Anastasia after her escape from Communist Russia. While her sights are set on avenging the death of her family, she joins forces with an elite espionage agency that’s working to prevent another world war.

By day, Anastasia is a former princess trying to blend into a normal life, but by night, she’s acting as the world’s first female spy, influencing some of the biggest events in the first part of the 20th century.

In reality, Anastasia was killed at age 17, along with her sisters Olga, Tatiana and Maria, brother Alexei and parents Nicholas II and Alexandra during the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. After investigators could not locate her body, it was rumoured that she had escaped and survived, with a number of young women coming forward, claiming to be her.

However, Anastasia was one of the bodies discovered. Maria’s body was recovered from another location.

Now that Fuller House got picked up for a second season on Netflix, fans are

still wondering whether we’ll see a cameo by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

But according to E! News, the 29-year-old fashion designers still don’t have

any interest in appearing on the show.

“I’m friends with both of them, I love them a lot and they just didn’t really want to act that much, that’s not what they do,” star Bob Saget recently told the site. “It would be fun if the show is a success, comes back and then they could show up. I don’t know. They will do what they want and I love them a lot.”

American actor Zac Efron takes a look through his binoculars while filming a boat scene for his movie Baywatch in Boca Raton, Fla.

The 28-year-old actor was joined on set that day by his co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and both of their stunt doubles.

David Chokachi, the star of the Baywatch television series, recently spoke

to E! News and said Zac is having trouble swimming in the ocean.

“Alexandra Paul, who is Stephanie on the show, her husband trains triathletes and I know he’s training Zac Efron to be ocean competent.

Nothing against Zac, but I heard he’s got a little struggle going on with

his affiliation with the ocean,” David said. “He’s having a little trouble, let’s put it that way.

“People think, ‘Oh, we’re gonna go swim in the ocean.’ But it’s different. If you’re actually going to portray a lifeguard, there’s a lot going on-how you enter the water, how you get to a victim. You gotta be legit or you’re gonna look like crap on TV,” David added. “I’m sure he’s struggling because I trained for like three months before we started filming with a real

lifeguard, Mike Newman. He kicked my butt. It was hard. The water’s freezing, you’re running in your shorts, and you’re spending a lot of time in the water, and the waves, you kinda get used to it.”

For you who are old enough to remember Tommy Steele, here’s an update. He has just featured in an extraordinary new stage production of The Glenn Miller Story, which has just completed a very successful 11 week tour of the UK.

The Glenn Miller Story with Tommy Steele will feature a live 16 piece authentic Glenn Miller orchestra as well as a company of singers, dancers and actors telling the life story of one the 20th Century’s most iconic

musicians.

For the past 15 or so years Bill Kenwright and his idol Tommy Steele have had supper two or three times every year to talk about the past (mainly Tommy’s past, as Bill can never have enough of Tommy’s stories about rock ‘n roll’s golden era!) the present (Scrooge or Doctor Dolittle) and the future (“we’ve got to find a show Tommy which I can produce for more than 10 weeks in the year like Scrooge!”)

The “let’s find another show” conversations have been long and varied. And have possibly included adaptations of every screen musical ever written. It was when discussing a particular favourite of theirs; the James Stewart box office smash The Glenn Miller Story, that Bill discovered that his all-encompassing love for Elvis was equal only to Tommy’s adoration for Glenn Miller and his Orchestra. Bill learned that Tommy is a true devotee; travelling all over the world to hear what remains of the original Orchestral Sounds, and is steeped in the knowledge and the glory of what Glenn Miller did for popular music.

Tommy enthused that Glenn changed the face of it from 1939 – 1943 when he was the most popular recording artist in

the world. Some might say similar to what Elvis did from the mid 50’s when he too was the most popular recording artist in the world.

The thought of Tommy Steele and The Glenn Miller Story was a wonderful opportunity to create something special in the mind of a producer like Bill. However, as Tommy told him, there was an obvious problem! Although he’s still one of this country’s greatest “8 shows a week” song and dance men, Tommy was too old to play Glenn! It was three years later – at a dinner party celebrating Tommy’s award as the Most Popular Entertainer of All Time at the London Palladium – that they came up with what they believed to be the answer!! What was it?? Come and see for yourself when The Glenn Miller Story is at a theatre near you. But here’s a clue – Tommy Steele will not be the Narrator.

BIOs
Eddie Rayner – Split Enz | Crowded House

Keyboard wizard, producer, songwriter and musical director extraordinaire, Eddie Rayner is known to the world as the musical backbone of 12 years and ten albums with Split Enz. His five decades in the spotlight have taken him from Space Waltz to The Makers, Crowded House to Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Paul McCartney to the NZ Symphony Orchestra and two solo albums, Horse and Play It Straight.

Finn Andrews – The Veils
Finn Andrews’ morphing art-rock band The Veils has cut a dramatic swathe from Auckland to London to Los Angeles since their arrival on the UK indie frontier in the early 2000s. Renowned for his possessed stage presence and rich, dark lyrical content, Finn’s songs have appeared in films by Tim Burton and Paulo Sorrentino. Time Stays, We Go was made in LA and Abbey Road in 2013. A fifth album is under construction.

Jordan Luck* – The Exponents | Jordan Luck Band

“Legend” is a word suffering from chronic overuse these days, but when it comes to Jordan Luck, the word regains its full meaning and one the NZ public associates with this true blue Kiwi artist. This affection is obviously felt among his musical peers as well, who bestowed Jordan the honour of Inaugural Inductee into the New Zealand Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of

Fame.

As front man and pop-writing genius with the legendary Exponents, he clocked up a staggering 18 Top 40 singles over the years, with Victoria recently voted by public as the 8th greatest song of all time.

* Performing in Auckland and Christchurch

Alastair Riddell – Space Waltz

A true child of bohemia, Alistair Riddell’s fate was sealed with The Beatles’ New Zealand tour of 1964, but it was the glam rock eruption of the early ’70s that made him a star. Featuring several future members of Split Enz, Space Waltz made instant impact with the classic Out In the Street in 1974. An overnight #1, it was voted into APRA NZ’s Top 50 songs of all time, and launched Alastair as our premier Stardust revolutionary.

Zaine Griff – Human Instinct
Zaine Griff is an Auckland born singer-songwriter who formed part of the English new wave scene of the 1980s. He had the kind of chic cred and looks other aspiring pop stars would have killed for. Although beginning as a musician in New Zealand, he moved to England in the 1970s, where he continued with his artistic and musical career, becoming a solo artist. He has had his work produced by David Bowie’s legendary producer, Tony Visconti. An excellent musician, songwriter and performer, he worked with Lindsay Kemp in arts, and The Human Instinct, The Kinks, David Bowie, Kate Bush and Hans Zimmer, in music.

Olympia

One of Australia’s most mercurial pop discoveries of recent years, Olivia Bartley playing under the moniker Olympia, features one the of most incredible voices in Australian music today. She has been described as “the best kept secret in Australian music right now.”

Olivia cut her teeth on the folk circuit of the early 2000s before making an assured left turn into the majestic conceptual pop of 2014’s Atlantis EP. After signing with EMI and touring as part of Paul Dempsey’s band, she made her richly composed 2016 debut Self Talk with producer Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, the Drones, Sarah Blasko).

Skyscraper Stan – The Commission Flats
Skyscraper Stan Woodhouse blew out of Auckland like a dustbowl drifter around 2012 and made himself an indispensible part of Melbourne’s twangsome roots scene with and without his old-time rockin’ combo The Commission
Flats. Part medicine show barker and part campfire troubadour, Stan took his tall tales far and wide with his swinging harmony debut album of 2015, Last Year’s Tune.

English actor Eddie Redmayne didn’t win a second consecutive Academy Award

this year but while he was in Los Angeles for the Oscars, he met with a large group of homeless LGBTI youth.

Redmayne, Oscar nominated this year for his portrayal of a pioneering

transgender woman in The Danish Girl, had breakfast with about 70 young

people after he toured the Los Angeles LGBT Centre’s Youth Centre.

The winner of the best actor Oscar a year ago for The Theory of Everything talked with Centre CEO Lorri L. Jean about the education and employment programmes offered to help and empower these youth to build successful, independent lives for themselves.

About 40% of the youth experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles are LGBT or questioning and many have been kicked out of their family homes simply because of their sexual orientation on gender identity.

The problem is especially acute for transgender youth who are far more likely to suffer violence and abuse on the streets and who have a much more difficult time finding employment,’ Redmayne says in a short video message he made to promote the centre’s fundraising efforts.

‘Fortunately, the centre is here for them.’

Salma Hayek recently posted on Instagram about how her 9-year-old dog Mozart was found shot to death on her ranch in Washington State. I immediately screamed, “MURDER!” But it turns out that it was an accident and the investigation is closed.

The Seattle Times says a neighbour told investigators with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office that he fired a pellet gun at Mozart Hayek because the dog was causing trouble. The neighbours say that Mozart attacked his two dogs so he fired a pellet gun to scare the dog off. It did a whole lot more than scare Mozart off. That pellet sent poor Mozart’s soul to heaven. The neighbour claims that he didn’t know that he shot Mozart. A vet said that a lead pellet hit one of Mozart’s arteries and he bled to death.

Salma wasn’t at her ranch at the time. A caretaker went for a horseback ride with a few of Salma’s dogs. When they got to the end of the road, the dogs, including Mozart, heard the sound of barking and ran toward the neighbour’s house. The caretaker didn’t go after them. The wife of the neighbour who shot Mozart said that he regularly used to go onto their property to fight with their dogs. Her husband finally had it and fired what he thought was a warning shot. She said that they’re very sorry that Mozart died.

“I’m still coming to terms with all of this, as you can imagine. We didn’t even know we killed a dog. To find out we killed a dog that belonged to a high profile person, I’m in shock. My heart is broken. I’m really sorry that the dog died.”

Investigators ruled the shooting as “justified,” but they still passed the case over to prosecutors who will review it. So many questions. Why hasn’t Salma built a fence? Why did the caretaker just let the dogs go like that? Why didn’t the neighbour scare Mozart off in a harmless way?

I know that both of their ranches are probably many acres big, but this is definitely going to cause a whole lot of tension. My neighbour’s dog once pissed on my front door mat in front of me and I never stopped throwing them dirty looks. So I can’t even imagine the kind of looks Salma is going to throw at the neighbour who shot her dog.

Rest in peace again, Mozart.

Pixar have revealed a new teaser trailer for Finding Dory.

Starring Ellen DeGeneres as the forgetful fish, this is the sequel to the 2003 megahit Finding Nemo.

The majority of the film takes place at the Marine Biology Institute of California, where Dory discovers she was born there and freed into the ocean at a young age.

‘I think that fish should be in the ocean…It’s what this whole sequel is about,’ Ellen has said. ‘It’s about rehabilitation and putting them back in the ocean,’ DeGeneres added to Yahoo Movies. ‘We have to protect our oceans. Hopefully that discussion starts with this film, because we really need to protect that environment.’

Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Idris Elba and Dominic West all also star in the film. Finding Dory will be released on 29 July in the USA.

Reality star Kris Jenner, 60, recently opened up about the O. J. Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson she knew before the murder trial.

“[O.J. and Nicole] were two of the best friends I ever had in my entire life,” Kris told People magazine ahead of the premiere of American Crime Story, which tackles the details of the case.

“I went to bed one night and I woke up the next morning and my entire universe had changed. They were two of the best friends I ever had in my entire life. They were my family. O.J. was like my big brother. So I not only mourned the loss of Nicole, but I mourned the loss of O.J. and that relationship,” Kris said. “I have these vivid memories of an amazing friendship and a life that we all had together. She was funny, she was beautiful and loyal and passionate and the best mom I had ever met.”

“I saw all the pictures and the police reports and I heard tapes of Nicole calling 911 [after she was abused by O.J.],” Kris added. “That was stuff I didn’t know anything about. I beat myself up because I felt like I wasn’t paying attention. Like, how did I miss this? But that’s typical in an abusive relationship – that the woman doesn’t speak out about how she’s being treated.”

“My heart breaks because of all the pain and suffering she went through. I wish I had noticed the signs. She was fighting for her life many days I’m sure. I try to pay attention to things more now. I follow my intuition.

“Domestic violence is a real tragedy in our lives,” says Jenner. “[Nicole’s death] could have been prevented. I have five daughters so of course I want women everywhere, especially women of this new generation, to know the story. They need to realize that they have a voice and they need to tell somebody if someone has hurt them. And if Nicole’s legacy can be protecting other women, then that would be a really positive thing.”

Oprah Winfrey just got a little bit more richer thanks to her endorsement of Weight Watchers.

The 61-year-old media mogul posted a video on Twitter announcing that she has lost 26 pounds so far on the diet plan, all while still eating bread.

“I lost 26 pounds, and I have eaten bread every single day,” Oprah says in the clip.

Right after Oprah sent out the tweet, the Weight Watchers stock went up by a little over $2 per share. Seeing as she owns six million shares in the company, that means the valuation of her share in the company went up by $12 million (US) because of the tweet!

Just because the stock price went up, it doesn’t mean that Oprah has $12 million (US) more in her bank account though. She will have to sell the shares to receive the money.

David Duchovny proudly shows off his star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame during the ceremony held on Monday (January 25) in Hollywood.

The 55-year-old actor and Gillian Anderson, his The X-Files co-star, graced the cover of Variety’s recent issue, where they dished on their current relationship.

Here’s what they said about working together:

“The crucible of doing that show made monsters out of both of us. Once we got to step back, it was like, ‘Oh, wow, we really like each other. I didn’t know that was going to happen. The way we work together has changed,” David said. “Whatever rapport we have as actors, we earned. It’s nice to be able to play that without ever even feeling like you’re playing it.

“Our relationship has definitely become a proper friendship over the last few years. I think we’re more on each other’s side. We’re more aware of the other’s needs, wants, concerns, and mindful to take those into consideration— and just sharing more about our experiences in the moment, under the sudden realisation that we’re both in this together, and wouldn’t it be nice if it were collaboration?” Gillian added.

The 69-year-old actor Sylvester Stallone recently opened about how the death of his son Sage in 2012 affected his decision to do Creed.

“Every time you can vent emotions that are real, I think that’s very helpful,” Sly said, “Most importantly, I want to respect his memory. I think we did, so it was good.”

Sly says “it took a while” to commit to the project. “I really didn’t want to do it — I swear to you. It’s just too painful. It’s rough. There is no closure. There is nothing. The wonderful thing about acting is that it’s a release. I can take some solace in that.”

According to the Evening Standard, a U.K. pop-up restaurant, Lucky Chip, recently had to change the name of their “Mark Wahlberg” burger after he sent a cease-and-desist letter through his lawyers.

“Fair enough if we were in America trying to compete with his brand, I could understand that, but we’re a small company and it’s quite fun and laidback,” founder Ben Denner told the outlet. “I don’t think we’ve disrespected him in any way. Personally, I would have thought he’d be happy…There are no hard feelings from my end. I hope he comes in for lunch one day.”

Passengers at the service are herd singing from a hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save but that hymn wasn’t written until 1937 some twenty five years after the disaster. The Picasso painting, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, is seen among the art works Rose and her fiancé Cal were taking to New York. All the artwork went down with the ship and lost, but that painting is on display today at the New York Museum of Modern Art.

In the movie it’s stated that the third class passengers, who Jack was, are barred from any of the services in the ships first-class dining room. When infact all religious services where open to all on board, no matter where they were on the ship.

Lake Wissota is a manmade lake, created back in 1917. But in the movie Jack say’s he went fishing there, remember, the Titanic sank in April 1912. As the ship was sinking, First officer William Murdoch shoots a passenger and then turns the gun on himself. History reports that First officer William Murdoch only fired warning shots from his gun and went down with the ship.
