The Klies Residence is a 6300 sf whole-house renovation project. The original 2000 sf home was built in 1956, and had a 900 sf addition designed and built in the 1980's. Located in the Spanish Hills neighborhood of east Boulder, the property has sweeping views of the northern front range, spanning from Eldorado Canyon to Long's Peak. The 1980's renovation did not capture these views in most rooms, so our main goal was to raise the existing roofs at the living room and master bedroom, level out the multiple levels of flooring, and to bring in the extraordinary vistas.

Secondly, we were to reconfigure the main entry to the east, which allows you to walk straight into the second level and main floor of the house. This requires an addition at the entryway, a reconfiguration of the kitchen and living room, and a new 1200 sf addition including a mudroom, pool-house adjacent to the new lap pool, and garage. It also includes a major renovation to the site; abandoning the existing driveway, regrading the the driveway to county standards, and situating an 18' x 45' pool adjacent to the kitchen.

Our final step was to add a 900 sf guest cabin, complete with it's own kitchen and laundry. In place of the original garage, this was a unique in-law suite where grandparents or guests could feel completely at home, without needing to access the main house.

After many months of design development, close coordination with consultants and the county, the project unfortunately came to an end when the clients were relocated for work and forced to sell the property.
