… continued from episode 1.

“Yes I used to know him sometime ago” I finally muttered after minutes of silence, “that’s how I know he’s the worst doctor at Red Cross” I answered giving him a disgusted look before grabbing Daniel from mum and storming into the room.

“She doesn’t seem to like you very much” I heard mum say to Tolu as I stormed into the room, it was obvious she was confused.

“Don’t worry about that ma, you know women can be funny at times” he replied with a loud chuckle, “I’ll be on my way now” he quickly added heading for the door.

“Thanks a lot for dropping my glasses, doctor” mum said locking the door behind him as he walked out.

Apparently, Daniel had rolled off the bed while he was sleeping and hit his head, that was why mum had screamed. Luckily the hit wasn’t too bad because of the carpet on the floor but even after checking his head a hundred times over, I was still paranoid that he could’ve had a skull fracture or worse still, an intracranial bleed, so I made up my mind that I was going to take him to the hospital immediately for a skull x-ray and a brain CT scan before I did any running around for the day. Some of you might think that’s just extreme, but don’t judge me, I’m a mother, we worry a lot.

For those of you that are lost, a skull fracture occurs when one or more of the bones that form the skull (bones protecting the brain) break(s). It usually occurs as a result of trauma to the head such as during car accidents, fall from heights. Etc. A skull fracture can be detected on a skull x-ray or a Skull CT scan.

An Intracranial bleed on the other hand, is a life-threatening condition in which there is bleeding in the skull or brain, it is also usually caused by trauma to the head.

It can be detected on a Brain CT scan and treatment for it must be immediate to prevent complications.

“Why were you rude to Dr. Tolu” mum asked interrupting my thoughts when she returned to the room, “rude? How do you mean?” I asked, “don’t ask me silly questions young lady, was that how I raised you to speak to visitors?” Mum replied.

“I really don’t have time for this now, mum. I have to get dressed and take Daniel to the hospital for check up” I replied “and you really need to change your doctor ASAP, Dr. Tolu is not the best for you. Trust me, I’m your daughter” I said patting her shoulders and leaving the room to get dressed.

I had managed to escape from mum’s questioning about Dr. Tolu and had taken Daniel to do the tests; luckily, nothing I feared had happened to him, he had simply just hit his head.

After dropping Daniel back home with mum, I decided to finally meet with a wedding planner to help me out with the planning for our wedding.

I managed to drag Yemi who had locked herself up in the room all morning along with me.

She had been fast asleep most of the morning while all the drama was going on. During our journey to pick Charly, I told her everything that happened earlier this morning, all she could do was gaze at me with her mouth wide open. “You don’t mean it?” She squealed, so that monster is your mum’s doctor?”

“Na so we see am o” I said, “In fact, I was so angry that I almost said more than I should’ve, but thank God I was able control my temper”

“Hmm! So you don’t intend to tell him about the twins?” She asked, “of course not! Why would I want to do that?” I replied looking at her like she was crazy, “I’m not ready to let anyone put sand in my already very sweet garri” I replied rolling my eyes, “the only father my kids will ever know is Chinedu and that is final”

“As your Lordship pleases” Yemi replied putting her hands together in front of her chest and bowing to me in sarcasm, “I only asked an innocent question.”

“Keep your innocent questions to yourself” I said sticking my tongue out as we approached Charly’s place.

We didn’t have much time on our hands, so we just called her and asked her to meet us downstairs in the parking lot.

“Charly pimping!” I called out teasing her as she approached the car, one couldn’t deny that she was looking a lot fresher and relaxed since she met Ken, she had put on a bit of weight too, especially in vital areas and I didn’t stop teasing her about it.

“What’s up girls?” She said when she finally got into the car, “I’ve got some hot gist for you both but I’m not telling unless you take me out for lunch”

“Typical Charlie! Always wanting to extort poor friends like us” I thought rolling my eyes, “you know how it is now, this wedding palava is not easy at all, any small money I have now, is going into wedding expenses, even 5 naira is a big deal for me” I joked,

“Oya Yemi! Over to you” Charly said turning to face Yemi, she was sticking her head out to the front like a little puppy from the back of the car where she sat, “you’re not doing any wedding so you will be the one to take us out for lunch” she ordered, “and please make it a chinese restaurant because I’m starving” she added.

“How are we even friends?” Yemi asked shaking her head, ” I really need to get some new friends before my bank account runs dry from staying around you guys” she joked, “after all is said and done, you’re still buying the chinese sha” I insisted as we drove along. Yemi told Charly everything about what happened to me earlier that morning and she almost jumped out of the window in anger, “that stupid fool, how dare he show his ugly face at your house?” She shouted, “Oh! Why wasn’t I there, I would’ve taught him a lesson he’d never forget” she said biting her nails in regret, “you sef, you’re too nice” she said shoving me, you’ll just be there speaking grammar instead of you to react like me” she hissed.

Amidst all Charly’s ranting, we finally got to the planner’s office, it was a relief to finally be out of the car breathing fresh air after being harassed throughout half of the journey by Charly.

The reception was beautifully decorated with flowers and well furnished, I had chosen one of the topmost wedding planners in the industry as I wasn’t willing to compromise on quality; judging from the look of her office alone, I could already tell she would be expensive “I only plan to get married once in a lifetime, besides I’ve waited so long so it’s not a big deal if I spend a lot” I said consoling myself, I was already scared of what the wedding planning bill would be like.

“Oh boy! This office furniture no be here o” Charly whispered to us while we waited to be called in to see the planner, “are you sure you can afford this place?” She asked echoing my thoughts, the receptionist ushered us into the planner’s office just as I was about to scold her with my response.

“So what kind of wedding would you like? And how many guests are you thinking of having?” Demi the planner asked after we were done with the pleasantries and introductions, “well, I’m looking at a thousand guests for the engagement and a hundred and fifty guests for the white wedding” I replied, “a hundred gini?” charly shouted sitting up in her chair, “have you forgotten that in my family alone we are 10? I’ve not even added some of my colleagues that I plan to invite and you’re saying 150. My friend better rephrase that statement” she said pointing a warning finger at me, “how did we become friends again?” I asked shaking my head, “please ignore her” I said turning to face the planner, “my fiancé and I would like to have an intimate outdoor wedding, a garden one to be precise”

“Hmm umm, so that sun should now be beating us outside abi?” Charly interrupted again, “Oh gosh, how could I have even thought of bringing this tout along?” I scolded myself, “she’s going to ruin everything.”

As if reading my mind, Yemi came to my rescue, “let’s go out for a walk and leave Tess to talk with the planner” she said dragging Charly up from her chair, “why? I don’t feel like going for a walk” Charly protested, “well you don’t have to feel like it, if you don’t go for a walk with me, then No chinese lunch for you” Yemi warned sternly.

“Fine you win” Charly replied pouting and getting up grudgingly from the chair like a 2 year old.

As soon as she left, the conversation went on more smoothly, We discussed further details of the wedding, the food, entertainment, our attires, venue, decor and much more. I told her I wanted a really fun wedding and she promised to give me just that, she even came up with more beautiful ideas that made me ooh and aah in amazement.

When we were finally done with our discussion, she raised an invoice for how much she would be charging for her wedding planning services and handed it over to me with a smile. I looked at the paper and wasn’t sure I was seeing correctly, “it seems you added an extra zero to the figures by mistake” I said pointing at the last zero on the invoice, “what you wrote here is 1.5 million instead of 150,000” I said correcting what I thought was an error.

“I didn’t make a mistake” Demi replied smiling, “full wedding planning costs 1.5 million naira and not 150,000.”

“Are you kidding me?” I asked with eyes and mouth wide open, “1.5million just to plan a wedding?” I asked, “yes madam, wedding planning is no easy task you know”

“I will get back to you soon” I stammered getting up to leave, “thanks for your time” I added.

“1.5 million what?” Charly screamed when I showed her and Yemi the invoice while we sat waiting for lunch to be served, “I always knew that woman had a long neck, I just never knew it was this long” she said, “anuofia like her, she should come and collect 1.5M now, because of ordinary wedding planning” she said hissing, “pay me 200k to plan your wedding since you’re too lazy to do it yourself; I will plan your child’s naming ceremony too as bonus offer” she joked. She seemed to be having fun making jokes about my wedding but for some reason, I wasn’t finding any of them funny.

Finally the drinks and starters arrived and we started munching away, “thank goodness” Yemi shouted when she saw the food, “I’m famished”

“So what was it you wanted to tell us?” I asked Charly halfway through our meal, “oh yes! That reminds me” she said chewing with her mouthful, “you won’t believe it guys” she said clapping her hands together gleefully, “I’m pregnant!” She announced without wasting time. “You’re what?” I asked dropping my fork, “what’s so exciting about that?” Yemi asked looking at her like she was crazy, “well congrats!” I managed to say, “does Ken know about this?”

“No he doesn’t” she replied taking another spoonful of rice “and I don’t intend to tell him till I’m done with the first trimester” she added.

“What is wrong with you?” Yemi shouted, “you’re making the same mistake over again”

Charly had gotten pregnant for one of her exes in the past, the pregnancy in question resulted in the birth of her now 3-year old son who he abandoned with her running off to marry one of his colleagues without an explanation and leaving her to raise their son all by herself.

Here she was 3 years later getting pregnant for another boyfriend of hers and this time keeping it secret from him without considering how he would feel.

“What if he’s not ready for a child yet?” I asked, “what if he does what Moyo did to you?” Yemi added, “why can’t you guys just be happy for me?” Charly blurted out, “when you got pregnant for your doctor fling and you married your yahoo yahoo husband, I didn’t sit around judging you two, so why do you think it’s okay to judge me now?” She said getting up and picking her bag, “I’m done talking to you both, Thanks for the meal” she said storming out of the restaurant.

As I watched her leave, I couldn’t help but think she was making another huge mistake, but I didn’t know how to stop her…
