Join us for happy hour on Monday night! We will talk about the DC Comprehensive Plan, a document that impacts housing, equity, economic development, and more in DC.

Tonight, Monday, February 13, from 6 to 8 pm, join contributors, readers, and our friends from the Coalition for Smarter Growth (CSG) for drinks and conversation at A&D Neighborhood Bar at 1314 9th Street NW near Mount Vernon Square.

At this happy hour, we will discuss how we can all take part in creating a more affordable and equitable city. Should there be more housing? More affordable housing? More local economic investment? The DC Office of Planning is updating the Comprehensive Plan, DC’s guide to growth, in 2017 and we have a unique opportunity to weigh in on what it says.

GGWash recently launched a campaign with CSG and a number of businesses and non-profits with 10 priorities for the update. Join us and learn about the campaign and ways you can get involved and make and impact. You can RSVP here.

A&D is a close walk from the Mount Vernon Square Metro station and is also along the 70 bus route on 7th Street NW.

We've recently held happy hours in White Flint, Navy Yard, Chinatown, Clarendon, and Silver Spring. Where should we go next?

Can't make it? Check out some of the other great events happening in the next few weeks.

Monday, February 13: An intersection at North Capitol Street and Lincoln Road NE will be getting immediate, short-term improvements for safety. Discuss these tactical urbanism-type changes at a public meeting at 6:30 pm in the NoMa BID Lobby (1200 First Street, NE).

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, February 13, 14, 15: The new FBI building is moving and the General Services Administration (GSA) is weighing where it should be built — Greenbelt, MD; Landover, MD; or Springfield, VA. Head over to one of three meetings this week to hear about the updated transportation impacts at each of the sites and weigh in. The first is at 11 Crescent Road in Greenbelt. The second is at 6540 Franconia Road in Springfield and the third is at 2413 Pinebrook Avenue in Landover. All meetings begin at 6 pm.

Tuesday, February 14: At this month's Action Committee for Transit meeting, hear about Montgomery County's housing shortage from Jeannette Chapman from the George Mason University Center for Regional Analysis. The meeting is at 7:30 pm at the Silver Spring Civic Center (One Veterans Place).

Thursday, February 16: When Virginia Railway Express (VRE) trains come into the District, they are currently stored in Ivy City. But that needs to change. Head over to this public meeting from 4 to 7 pm at the Bethesda Baptist Church (1808 Capitol Avenue NE) to hear about the new proposed facility that will accommodate up to 20 trains and will be used to store commuter trains on weekdays between the inbound morning commute and the outbound afternoon commute. There will be a presentation at 4:30 pm and one at 6:30 pm.

Thursday, February 16 and next Tuesday, February 21: There has been a lot more protesting in DC recently. Do you want to get involved but don't know how? Jews United for Justice (JUFJ) is holding several trainings to prepare you for local action resisting the Trump administration. There are two upcoming trainings, one this Thursday at 6:30 pm and one next Tuesday at 12:15 pm. Both are at the JUFJ office (1100 H Street NW). RSVP here.
