State of the union: The Steel Hurtin' have their final home bout this weekend! On Saturday, they will face off against the Ohio Roller Girls in what is expected to be a very well-matched and heated battle. Unofficial rivals, the two teams have been duking it across the state for a few years now. Last year, Steel City lost to them in the regular season but then beat them in the playoffs. This weekend, of course, we'll be there to capture all the atmosphere and action!
After their last hoorah at home, the Hurtin' will travel to Jacksonville, in September, for a playoff tournament. Heading into the tournament, they are seeded 29th overall (out of a total of 265 teams ranked in the WTFDA) going into the post-season and will play the Pikes Peak Derby Dames in the first round. Should they place in the Top 3 in the tourney, they will move on to nationals in November!
I've been in production for this film since spring, when I first started showing up to practice and sticking a camera in their face. Since that time, we've filmed two home bouts (this Saturday will be the 3rd), multiple practices, candid moments outside the rink, and will be filming interviews in the near future. In fall, production will end and the almighty task of putting it all together in post-production will begin: going through a mountain of footage, weaving the storyline, getting a score made, adding graphics, color-treating footage, mixing sound, etc, etc. BRING IT ON!
