I've made this list of "optimum" levels of outfitting for the most common ships used for exploration.
Please note, this is only my opinion, and some have a level of defensive safety included where possible (shields, heat sinks etc), but no weapons. You can always remove/add anything as you see fit.
Power management is needed in some of these setups. By toggling/prioritising non critical modules, such as AFM Units and Shield Generators, smaller Power Plants can be used.
For those on a tighter budget, try using lower end AFM Units, as some of these bring the costs right up.
