In Sept 2016 , I was tired of Directv raising my rate that pushed 100.00 per mo, so I bought an HD antenna to see how many HD channels I would receive. To my amazement I got 67 of them, including all the network channels and a lot of the Channels secondary channels I was getting with my current Directv plan. I also, did the PlayStation Vue Trial at the same time. I got all the channels and then some that I was getting on Directv. So I went on the roof and dismantled the Satellite dish and called Directv to terminate the service. They asked me why, I said read the notes from all the times I called complaing about my rate and that my equipment was old and was not compatible for getting the On Demand channels and that New Customers were getting the latest equipment for free along with the NFL ticket for free with their discounted plans, Free HBO for 3 months and I get nothing for being a customer for all these years and pay more then the New Customers. I was told, you've been a customer a long time (6 years) we'd hate to lose you as a customer. I said well, you're going to unless you make me an offer I can't refuse. The agent said, this is what I can do. I will give you a 25.00 credit per month for 12 months, I will replace that SD box on your 2nd TV with an HD box for free and I will also give you a choice of Starz channels, HBO channels or a Fox sports pkg free for 3 months. I will also send out a technician to hook up your dish and HD receiver for free. So my bill was 74.99 + taxes and fees - the discounts totaled around 72.00. I agreed to stay with Directv. So here it is 5 months later. I took a look at my bill the other day and found it was 102.00. LOL. a 10..0 discount was removed and they charged me 13.99 for the free starz pkg I chose, in addition, they raised my rate from 74.99 to 78.99 and raised the regional sports fee from 4.76 to 7.26. I called to complain of course. I was given a credit for the Starz costs because nobody told me I had to cancel that free subscription or be charged after 3 months. I said, I need to lower this bill further or I need to terminate. I was told that if I downgraded to a lesser pkg, from Choice to the Entertainment pkg I could save an additional 15.00 per month. I said but what channels will I lose ? The agent rattled off the channels and since I didn't watch any of them I said OK, do it. my bill was reduced to 67.00 per month and still kept the dozen channels I really watched. An hour later I noticed that the NFL network was taken off and so was the Weather Channel, both of those were never mentioned when she rattled off those channels I would be losing.  I called back and got another agent, she told me that she was sorry and my only option was to go back to the choice pkg. I said, I do not want a bill over 75.00 per month. she said she could only offer me a 5.00 credit for 12 months but that will leave you with an 83.00 per month bill. I said, forget it, I will have another source for TV by Monday. I was looking at other options for TV which included Xfinity and Streaming services like PlayStation Vue, Hulu, Sling and others. I called Xfinity, actually I was looking at their pkg's and pricing when an agent appeared in a dialog box and asked if they could help me. to make a long story short lol, after the equipment rentals and the other fees, it was only 2.00 cheaper then the Directv I was already paying, not worth making a change only to have a 2 year agreement. I was checking out the Streaming Service companies and found I could get the same programming at 1/2 the cost with an HD antenna that costs 15.00. There would be no equipment rental or any other fees, something that really peaked my interest. So after sleeping on it, I decided I would test out their 1 week Trials to see which Streaming service was make sense to me as far as programming and ease of use. This would take some time so I decide to call Directv again this morning to #1 get the Choice pkg back and get that additional 5.00 credit which would bring my bill down to 83.00 temporarily until I decided which streaming service I would choose. Now the Kicker. I was told that when they gave me that Free HD box to replace the SD box, I apparently entered into an additional 24 month agreement and that it has 18 months remaining and that if I terminated the service, I would be charged 20.00 per month for 18 months which totals 360.00 for early termination. I was never told that prior to getting that Free HD Box and would never agree to such a thing. So now I am stuck for another 18 months which I know my bill will exceed 102.00 per month because there is only 6 months left on the 15.00 credit and who knows when the 5.00 one will expire because you can't trust anything these agents tell you. All I can tell you is that I am fed up with Directv and the way they lie and deceive their customers and terminate them anyway and fight any early termination fee they throw at me. Here I am, A loyal Customer all theses years and am being treated like dirt for what ? a few dollars that don't mean anything to them ?. while I waited for a supv, I googled this " Directv's deception tactics" you'd be amazed what you'll get, loads of complaints from customers for these very issues and that Directv was fined million and millions of dollars from the FCC. The were charged with many infractions of deceitful tactics. to make another long story short, the Supv. didn't help at all, he only acknolwedged that I entered into an additional 24 month agreement. So this is where I stand at this moment, I know this was long but I had a story to tell and I wanted to tell the whole story. I'm certain that I'm not the only person this has happened to but I'm not fighting yet.
