We recently got a chance to check out the Disney subscription boxes from Walt Life. They sent us a complimentary box in exchange for our honest review. Check out our box (and more information about the service) below!

Do you get any subscription boxes? We don’t anymore, but the concept has seemed to blow up like crazy over the last couple of years. There are boxes for fandoms (Disney subscription boxes, boxes of Harry Potter collectibles, etc) and boxes that may be a bit more practical (beauty products, clothes, dog toys…).

I think I had sort of given up on them, just based on decision fatigue!

When Walt Life reached out about reviewing their boxes, we were thrilled. If you’ve been around here long you know our family is up for all things Disney. It only seemed fitting that we received our box while we were down at the most magical place on Earth!

Walt Life Subscription Boxes

Before sending us our goodies, the folks at Walt Life asked a few questions such as my favorite color or favorite character. It looks like when you sign up for a Walt Life subscription, you do have the opportunity to specify whether you want a female, male, or neutral box, and the age(s) of the recipient(s). You can also opt for a classic Disney box, Star Wars themed box, etc.

More on that in a bit, but I wanted to clarify that our box may have been more personalized or unique than a standard subscription box. It is likely that you would receive a box similar to others (with a certain set of preferences) in any given month. (In our experience, that’s how most subscription boxes work anyway, versus a more customized experience.)

What was in our Walt Life box?

The first thing I noticed when I opened our (adorable!) box was a white baseball cap featuring the practically perfect Mary Poppins herself.

We also got these fantastic “it’s a small world” ears that my daughters and I have been eyeing for many trips. How did they know?!

We also got a 2020 picture frame, two adorable keychains, and a small pack of Disney-themed Jelly Belly jellybeans (which no, I did not really end up sharing).

How Walt Life Works

As I admitted, it’s been a while since I had much experience with subscription boxes – but I found no bad surprises when checking out Walt Life’s process and offerings.

Walt Life Box Themes & Sizes

Walt Life customers can choose from a variety of different box themes, sizes, and subscription plans.

DISNEY SUBSCRIPTION BOX

The Disney Subscription box includes pins or other items from the Disney Parks, delivered monthly. The following sizes are available:

The CLASSIC box ($30/month) includes 3+ Disney items.

The MAGIC box ($39/month) includes 4+ Disney items.

The MAGIC PLUS box ($49/month) includes 5+ Disney items.

The KINGDOM box ($79/month) includes 6+ Disney items.

Each box includes free shipping within the US, and the ability to cancel anytime or even skip a month.

Please note: I have a reader who rightfully pointed out that the Disney items may include things like the small pack of jelly beans. They’re delicious and it’s nice to have variety in each box, but just keep that in mind when choosing your box and waiting for it to arrive!

“Five Disney items” probably can’t ever reasonably be five $25 Minnie ear headbands. I thought it was definitely worth pointing out though, because I know I could have easily focused on the exciting “big” items I see in boxes, and envisioned something different than what is actually included.

SURPRISE! BOX

I absolutely love this idea. Different than the monthly subscription options, this is a single box that is great for announcing an upcoming trip. The $49 box includes 6+ Disney items – including “vacation-specific goodies” – in a cute Top Secret box.

STAR WARS SUBSCRIPTION BOXES

In addition to the classic Disney/Disney Parks items, Walt Life offers subscription boxes for Star Wars fans. The “Walt Wars” box ($49) includes 5+ Authentic Star Wars items, plus the same benefits as the Disney subscription boxes.

Other Walt Life Options

If you don’t want general merchandise, Walt Life also has a whole selection of subscription options for pin traders and collectors.

Pin Edition: includes one authentic Disney trading pin

Pin Collector: includes an authentic Disney trading pin on original backing

Marvel Collector: includes one Marvel trading pin with backing

Star Wars Collector: includes one Star Wars trading pin with backing

There are also boxes dedicated to Disney Snacks, and other grab bag or gift-giving options.

Our Thoughts on Walt Life Disney Subscription Boxes (…and Subscription Boxes in General)

The biggest reason I stopped receiving subscription boxes after using them for several months (years ago), is that they seemed to have “run their course” – at least for me.

It certainly wasn’t that, for example, Stitch Fix ran out of clothing to offer. But I’m relative minimalistic when it comes to collectors items, and even clothing and household items, so I just didn’t need – or really even want – any more articles of clothing after a little while.

I don’t think fandoms like Disney, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lego, are ever going to run out of things to enjoy. The biggest question for me and my family when considering any subscription box, is whether or not we really need or want more “stuff”. Sometimes, maybe even dependent on the day, the answer is a resounding yes. But we probably aren’t the right audience for long-term, ongoing subscriptions of any kind.

That said, I’ll tell you my favorite use of subscription boxes – gift-giving! If you know a Disney or Star Wars fan – or a fan of anything else offered by a reputable subscription service – it’s really great to be able to give a gift that is either a one-time, lovely surprise in the mail, or an ongoing gift the recipient can enjoy for a few months!

In that light – whether purchasing as a gift or just deciding to treat myself or my family now and then – Walt Life really excites me. Here’s why:

It may seem like a little thing, but that packaging was impressive. It’s all very cute, and well-packed for the safety of the items. It was a great first impression, and for some of us, that goes a long way.

The items are great. If you’re fan of Disney Parks merchandise, you know there’s a ton to choose from. I have never pulled the trigger on the “it’s a small world” ears, but am thrilled that I now own them. If an item is coming from the Disney Parks, you know – whether or not it becomes your new favorite thing – about what to expect as far as quality and design.

The “Walt Life Treasures” game is really clever, and something I haven’t personally experienced from a subscription service like this. Each box includes a token with either a letter in W-A-L-T-L-I-F-E or a Wild. You earn prizes by collecting tokens spelling “Walt”, “Life”, or “Walt Life”.

I can’t specifically speak to how likely you are to win a prize, but I get the feeling it’s not like trying to win Monopoly with McDonald’s in a contest so convoluted they’ve made a documentary about it.

The prizes (a mini Tsum Tsum, a bean bag plush, or other “Disney parks item”) are a very nice addition, but not so extravagant that they can never actually be given away. You can win a trip for two to Walt Disney World if you complete “Walt Life” without any ‘wild’ tokens. This gives me some idea of what tokens one might expect to be common or how difficult that task would be, but overall, the program seems like it would actually be worthwhile to keep track of your tokens from each box.

Will we order more Walt Life boxes?

Absolutely! If nothing else, I’m impressed enough with the one I received to continue trying out the service. We are signing up for at least an additional box for our family (maybe one for each kid….? It all depends how generous I’m feeling. ).

As mentioned above, it may not be something we continue long-term – simply because we aren’t great “collectors”. I do know many people though, who would absolutely count down the days to their next box for months on end. So far, I have no reason to believe that Walt Life wouldn’t fit that bill really well. I’ll keep you posted after we’ve purchased our own boxes and received a couple more for comparison!
