I first discovered KT Tunstall’s music through Neil Finn‘s epic 7 Worlds Collide projects. KT, an extraordinary creative with the full spectrum of talent, the ability to write, the ability to perform and the ability to connect with an audience. KT’s magnetic personality and energy earn her a dedicated following of fans world wide.
There is a hardly an award that hasn’t gone KT’s way Q, Mercury, BBC, Ivor Novello, Grammy, and Brits to name just a few of her credits. Awards aside her music speaks for itself. With an already established plethora of hit songs KT Tunstall released WAX in October 2018. Wax is the sixth studio album and the second album in the “soul, body and mind” trilogy follows the top ten album ‘KIN’. There are no low points with WAX, you can feel the investment of energy, thought and attention to detail in every track.
Belfast was the second night of the tour with KT joking that meant it was better than the first night but to be honest the set already felt polished and finely tuned. The multi-talented, all female group treated the Tuesday night Elmwood Hall audience, to classic KT Tunstall intertwined the new tracks, all of which were spectacular live. The impromptu Belfast accent was also rather impressive.
It’s frankly impossible not to love an artist who writes about mountains and rivers. KT gracefully intertwines a powerful poet with positively unpredictable melodies. It’s been a very long time since I have had an album on constant repeat but WAX’s 41 minutes are special from start to finish.
Better still, there is a third album in the trilogy still to come. If you can get to any of the European dates they are well worth the effort.
