Hey Second Life residents!

We know how important it is to stay connected with your online friends while exploring the virtual world of Second Life. Unfortunately, some of you may have been experiencing issues with your online friends not showing correctly. First and foremost, we want to emphasize that this problem is not specific to the Firestorm Viewer. It is a broader issue affecting the entire Second Life platform, and only the Linden Lab team can address it. We are here to inform you and provide support while we wait for a resolution.

Let’s dive into the updates (all of them were published via the Second Life Status page):

While the complete fix was still in progress, the Linden Lab team wanted to share a temporary workaround with you. If your online friends are not showing correctly, follow these steps:

The workaround

– Log in to Second Life and open the World Map.

– Enter the search term “Sandbox” to find a sparsely populated Sandbox region.

– Teleport to that region and, once you land, log out.

– Log back in to your last location, and your friends’ online status should appear correctly now.

Please note that this workaround may not work for everyone. If the issue persists, try repeating the steps in another lightly occupied region.

Ongoing situation

The online friends display issue is still being actively worked on by the Linden Lab team. We want to assure you that they are doing everything they can to resolve the problem. We understand how vital this feature is to your Second Life experience, and we appreciate your continued patience. Remember, this issue is not specific to the Firestorm Viewer or any other viewer. We encourage you to follow their blog for future updates on the matter. Lastly, we’d like to thank the Firestorm community for bringing attention to this issue, in our support groups, JIRA and IMs – we are definitely aware of it, we observe the situation as well.

During the recent Third Party Viewer meeting, Rider Linden provided some valuable insights that give us hope for a resolution. Rider Linden mentioned that the upcoming maintenance release, called “Summertime Blues“, includes fixes for agent presence. This means that the issues we’ve been experiencing with friends appearing offline when they’re actually online should be addressed. It’s great news! While we don’t have specific details about the maintenance release, we’re optimistic that it will significantly improve the situation and eagerly anticipating the release of it.

Your support and understanding make our virtual world a better place.

Keep enjoying your time in Second Life and stay connected,

The Firestorm Team
