The U.S. women beat an overextended, poorly conditioned New Zealand side 5-0 Tuesday (Sept. 19) at Nippert Stadium in Cincinatti.
It was the second of back-to-back U.S. victories over the Ferns. On Friday (Sept. 15), outside Denver, the Americans won 3-1.
Here are five oddities, curiosities, or (possibly) interesting facts about the games and their participants:
1.
In 2016, the top U.S. scorers were Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan (17 goals each), Crystal Dunn (14 goals) and Christen Press (12).
Those same players this year: Lloyd, 1 goal. Morgan, 4. Dunn, 4. Press, 2.
2.
In the two matches against Australia, the United States had 33 shots, 13 shots on goal, and 16 corner kicks. The Aussies had 10, 3, and 7, respectively.
3.
The crowd of 30,596 in Cincinatti was the largest to ever for a USWNT match in Ohio.
4.
Rose Lavelle, a Cincinnati native, started on Tuesday. It was her first appearance since injuring a hamstring in June.
5.
Becky Sauerbraun just almost never makes a mistake.
