Coromon the monster taming title releases at the end of this month, and developer TRAGsoft have shared new details about features of the game. A new trailer explains the difference in the difficulty modes offered, including a customisable mode and more challenging modes which offer Nuzlocke features.
Players can set off on their adventure to capture creatures in a few different difficulty settings available in Easy, Regular, Hard and Insane, as well as a customisable mode.
Test your Coromon trainer skills against others in multiplayer matches online. The developer has also confirmed that players can use the cross-save function between Nintendo Switch and Steam versions.
Difficulty Settings – From Easy to Nuzlocke
Easy Mode
For newer players of the genre Easy mode as it’s far more forgiving, allowing Coromon to gain full HP when they level, a 50% discount on shop items, and if your Coromon faints you will just need to feed it some healing Cake to nurse it back to health, no special revival items required.
Normal Mode
This mode is just as it sounds for those who are familiar with monster capture experience, with no special rules, so if you’re looking for just your average run through, this mode is for you.
Hard Mode
Introducing permadeath, meaning if your Coromon faints it will leave your Squad, and will return to the wild, so I guess you don’t have to feel too bad about putting it into an early retirement. The only other caveat for this mode is not being able to escape from battles, you have to approach them head-on and win…hopefully.
Insane Mode
Includes all the rules from a hard mode with some extras. The use of Recall items is out the window, meaning you will have to travel through Coromon habitats. You’re also limited to catching only one Coromon from each area using the LuxLure. There is an exception which is being able to capture any Perfect Coromon.
Both hard mode and insane contain Nuzlocke rules, with Insane of course turning it up a notch.
Customisable Mode
The fifth, most interesting is a customisable mode. This particular mode will allow for a number of specific options when it comes to harder settings. You can limit the number of times you can visit the Trainer hub for example. Another interesting setting is limiting the type of Coromon you can capture, such as wild only.
Set different Catching Rules to customise your own challenges
Randomised Settings
Another feature is Random Settings. This can only be accessed after defeating the first major battle against Voltgar. This throws a whole bunch of random settings including randomised trainer Coromons, or even randomised evolutions.
What’s Coromon?
In case you missed it Coromon is a retro-inspired monster taming game, with 120 creatures to capture and turn-based battles. There are different types such as sand, magic, foul, heavy, air, poison and more. Battles will take place in dungeons, on the side of the road or even in more challenging settings such as multi-stage boss fights against six Titans set on disrupting Coromon’s way of life.

This mix of difficulty modes and customisable features means players can really tailor their Coromon monster taming experience and even set their own challenges all built-in.
Coromon will be available on Nintendo Switch as well as Windows PC and Mac via Steam and Epic Game Store on Thursday, March 31, 2022.
