We’re never gonna dance again *holds back tears*

2016 isn’t done being cruel. It’s still claiming beloved victims even as it inches closer to the end. George Michael, the English superstar who crooned his way into our hearts since the 80s, has unexpectedly passed away on Christmas this year. He was found dead at his home in Goring in Oxfordshire, England.

His publicist, Connie Filippello, released a statement saying, “It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,” his publicist Connie Filippello said in a statement. “The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

George found fame with the band Wham! and later followed it up with an equally successful solo career. He came out as gay in 1998, stating that he hadn’t been in a relationship with a woman for almost 10 years. Though he was often caught in the spotlight for his sexuality and drug problems, he always did his part at generously donated to the society.

His Wham! band member, Andrew Ridgeley, took to Twitter to express his sorrow.
