National Crime Victims’ Rights Week: Support by Walking alongside Victims, Survivors, Family Members, and the Community
Join the Fairfax County Police Departments Victim Services Section on Sunday, April 2, 2017 as we launch the 2017 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, with the 5th Annual 5K Walk and Crime Victim Tribute. For this free event we invite crime victims, survivors, family members, friends, and the community to come out to raise awareness for victims’ rights in Northern Virginia and show their support for all victims of crime.
The 2017 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week will be commemorated April 2 to 8, 2017. This year’s theme-Strength. Resilience. Justice--reflects a vision for the future in which all crime victims are strengthened by the response they receive, organizations are resilient in response to challenges, and communities are able to seek collective justice and healing.
Participants are encouraged to arrive at 4:30 p.m. to check in. There’s no better way to display our Strength, Resilience, and Justice on the first day of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week than to recognize our victims and survivors as the heroes they are. During sign in, please pick up your superhero capes to wear as a show of solidarity to all those who have been victims of crime.
During check in participants will have the opportunity to listen to the talented music of contemporary jazz and blues band Blue Tango while visiting the vendor tables featuring local organizations and service providers who work directly with victims of crime in Northern Virginia.
Guest speakers this year include: Julie Carey, NBC4 News, as the Master of Ceremonies, Fairfax County Deputy County Executive for Public Safety Dave Rohrer, Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr., Assistant Fairfax County Commonwealths Attorney Jessica Greis-Edwardson and Joseph Samaha father of Virginia Tech murder victim, Reema Joseph Samaha.
At the conclusion of the walk, please stay as Allan McCullough of Grace Hill Church closes this important event as he pays tribute to all victims of crime with a benediction.
