(2/16/17) News Conference Today: Additional Charges Placed in Gang-Related Murder Investigation

Detectives have obtained charges for murder against five suspects, two adults and three teenagers, involved in the death of 15-year-old Damaris Alexandra Reyes Rivas:

Jose Ivan Castillo Rivas, 18, 5800 block of Brunswick Street, Springfield

Wilmer A. Sanchez Serrano, 21, of no fixed address

A 17-year-old Alexandria-area girl

Two 17-year-old boys; one of Annandale, the other of Springfield

We coordinated with several agencies, to include search teams from around the area, to bring this case to a successful close. All 10 suspects involved in the victim’s abduction and murder are in custody. Two suspects are awaiting extradition to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr., Chief of Police, will share more information about these charges today at 2 p.m. Representatives from various agencies will also be present, to include the Northern VA Regional Gang Task Force, Prince William County Police, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations. (2/15/17) Update: Suspects Identified, Preliminary Charges in Ongoing Homicide Investigation

The four adults charged in connection to 15-year-old Damaris Reyes Rivas’ death are below. Each has been charged with abduction and gang participation:

Cindy Blanco Hernandez, 18, 11900 block of Winterthur Lane, Reston

Wilmer A. Sanchez-Serrano, 21, of no fixed address

Aldair J. Miranda Carcamo, 18, 7000 block of Skyles Way, Springfield

Seven teenagers have also been charged with abduction and gang participation. One of them, a 16-year-old girl, is still outstanding. The other teens are a:

16-year-old boy

Two 17-year-old boys

17-year-old girl

Additional charges are pending further investigation and detectives are working with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

(2/15/17) UPDATE: Preliminary Charges Placed in Gang-Related Murder; News Conference Today, 1 p.m.

Detectives have identified 10 suspects, four adults and six juveniles, they believe to be involved in the murder of 15-year-old Damaris A. Reyes Rivas. As our investigation develops, we have determined the victim was held against her will, taken to Lake Accotink Park and assaulted before she was killed and left nearby in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road. Detectives believe this occurred on or around January 8.

Since detectives located the victim’s body on February 11, they have worked relentlessly to identify everyone involved, obtain warrants for criminal violations and bring all suspects to jail. Currently, nine suspects are in custody and have been charged with abduction and gang participation.

Detectives continue to piece together critical information with regard to Reyes Rivas’ death. As the investigation progresses, detectives will consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office to obtain additional charges as appropriate.

A news conference will be held today (February 15) at 1 p.m. in the A-level conference room of the Massey Building (police headquarters), 4100 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax 22030.

(2/13/17) UPDATE: Autopsy of Remains Ruled a Homicide

Franconia Police District – An autopsy was conducted on the human remains found in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road on Saturday, February 11. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide. The victim suffered trauma to the upper body.

Detectives believe the victim is Damaris A. Reyes Rivas, 15, of Gaithersburg, Md. The teenaged girl was reported missing from Montgomery County, Md., on December 10, 2016. Detectives are following numerous leads and the investigation remains active.

(2/11/17) Remains Found Near Industrial Park

Franconia Police District – Major Crimes detectives are working to determine the identity of human remains discovered today (February 11) while helping another jurisdiction search for a missing juvenile. Our detectives began their search in Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Lake Accotink Park Road, in Springfield. They expanded their search to the surrounding area and discovered the remains of a female this afternoon in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road, in Springfield. Detectives were unable to confirm the female’s identity.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

No further information is available at this time but detectives do not believe there is any threat to public safety. More information will be released as it becomes available.
