Housed in an iconic 1920s brick building, The Renwick Hotel New York City, Curio Collection by Hilton is located just two blocks from Grand Central Station and a short walk to Bryant Park, the New York Public Library and bustling Times Square. Complete with 173 guest rooms and suites, the fully-renovated property takes inspiration from its days as a residence for intellectuals and literati, with unique interiors designed to pay homage to culture and art from the Roaring Twenties.

The Renwick opened in February 2016 as a 173-room hotel, featuring 33 custom suites, located at 118 East 40th Street. The building, built in 1928, was once a long-stay hotel housing artists and prominent literary figures and the creative spirit of these former residents is the basis for the hotel’s engaging aesthetic. The product of a blooming partnership between hotel Asset Value Enhancement (hotelAVE) and Meadow Partners, The Renwick delivers a fresh new focus on whimsical luxury with a modernistic approach designed for business travelers and leisure-seekers alike. John DeLucie’s first solo restaurant, Bedford & Co. is open as the hotel’s signature food and beverage offering, bringing increased energy to the property sparked by its modern American cuisine prepared on a custom-made wood-burning grill.

“As one of the world’s most vibrant and dynamic cities, New York affords travelers singular moments unlike any other cultural destination in the world,” said Mark Nogal, global head, Curio – A Collection by Hilton. “Thus, The Renwick is an ideal hotel for Curio’s first foray into Manhattan. Its artful, luxurious design epitomizes our commitment to offering travelers distinctive hand-picked properties, each with its own character and story to tell.”

Named after acclaimed architect James Renwick Jr. (who designed St. Patrick’s Cathedral), the hotel has been completely renovated by renowned New York-based architecture and interior design firm Stonehill & Taylor.
Each of the hotel’s gallery rooms and residential-style suites is fashioned as a stylish enclave to inspire both comfort and creativity, with easels and paint, writing paper and ink, inspired artwork and literature complementing its modern and upscale amenities. Guest rooms contain unique pieces, both functional and standalone, created by more than 20 local artists – such as each room’s hand painted New York City skyline drapes, artist stools and ceramic pen cups that feature pages from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “Great Gatsby.”

Several intriguing design elements – exclusive to The Renwick — are evident in the hotel’s public areas, as well. String art and a mixed-media mural are featured in the lobby. Stairwells and bathrooms are graced with one-of-a-kind murals paying tribute to the building’s former tenants; and Brooklyn-based Apotheke supplies handmade bath amenities created solely for the hotel.
The Renwick Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton is home to the first solo restaurant from award-winning Chef John DeLucie. Bedford and Co. offers contemporary American cuisine in a vibrant setting that fuses art, culture and a powerhouse menu of shareable plates and bold mains from the restaurant’s wood fire grill. Seasonal menus are distinguished by a variety of modern American dishes, while a refined beverage program features a rotating menu of Prohibition era-style artisan cocktails.
“The heart of Manhattan is a perfect locale for The Renwick, an art-inspired hotel with a distinguishing character,” said Blair Wills, President/COO, StepStone Hospitality. “By joining Curio – A Collection by Hilton, we are able to delight curious travelers who are drawn to unique hotels like ours, with a style all its own.”
