Inaugural Transatlantic Fashion Week Crossing to sail from Southampton to New York September 1-8, 2016

Leaders in the field of haute couture, currently preparing for London Fashion Week on February 19-23, will join Cunard‘s Queen Mary 2 7-night Transatlantic crossing in September to New York, the style capital of the world. The inaugural ‘Transatlantic Fashion Week’ voyage will arrive in the Big Apple the very same day New York Fashion Week 2017 Spring/Summer shows begins. Award winning British fashion designer, Dame Zandra Rhodes, who has dressed some the world’s most famous musicians, will treat guests to ‘an audience with’ as she discusses her impressive career.

Preparing to show her latest collection at London Fashion Week, the award designer spoke about her excitement at joining this special voyage:

“Guests are going to be able to look forward to a fantastic fashion experience,” said Rhodes. “I’m going to be doing a dress show, as well as doing a talk with the fabulous Colin McDowell. Guests will have the chance to dine with all these specialists in the industry, ask questions from us all. I’m there to enhance everyone’s experience.”

Joining the line-up of fashion royalty is the highly respected fashion historian and commentator Colin McDowell and Fern Mallis, the ‘Godmother of Fashion‘ and founder of New York Fashion Week.



Colin McDowell MBE, Fashion Historian; Fashion historian and style commentator, Colin McDowell has been in the fashion business for over 40 years. McDowell was a fashion writer of the London Sunday Times and during that time he also wrote for every major newspaper in the United Kingdom. In 2004 he set up first initiative to support and mentor young designers in London. Called Fashion Fringe, it has influenced and been adopted as the way to train young people across the globe.

A noted academic he has published 23 books in fashion and style related subjects including his latest which are Fashion Today and the Anatomy of Fashion.

Dame Zandra Rhodes CBE, Fashion Designer: Zandra Rhodes was one of the New Wave of British Designers who put London at the forefront of the international Fashion Scene in the 70’s. Zandra has designed for clients as diverse as Diana, Princess of Wales, Jackie Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor and Freddie Mercury of the rock group ‘Queen’.

She continues to clothe and design for the rich and famous around the world from royalty to rock stars including: HRH Princess Michael of Kent, Debbie Harry, Bianca Jagger, Kylie Minogue, Anastasia, Paris Hilton, the late Joan Rivers and the late Isabella Blow.

Since 2000 Zandra’s career has diversified into designing sets and costumes for the opera. In 2003 Zandra founded The Fashion & Textile Museum in Bermondsey Street, London. She was made a Commander of the British Empire in 1997 in recognition of her contributions to fashion and textiles and this year has been made a Dame in the Queen’s latest Honours list and most recently opened the September 2015 London Fashion Week.

Fern Mallis, Creator of New York Fashion Week: Hailed as the award-winning creator of New York Fashion Week – Fern Mallis has been called an industry titan and The Godmother of Fashion.

As the creator and host of premiere conversation series Fashion Icons w/Fern Mallis – Mallis assembled an incredible roster of guests for her now signature in-depth interviews, including Calvin Klein, Norma Kamali, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford, Michael Kors, Polly Mellen, Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, Vera Wang, Suzy Menkes, Oscar de la Renta, André Leon Talley, Bruce Weber, Isaac Mizrahi, John Varvatos, Lauren Hutton, Bill Cunningham, Valentino, Leonard A. Gail Sackloff OBE, Consultant to the International Fashion Industry: Known as the Queen of Connections, Sackloff has sourced the best of British fashion designers on behalf of American stores Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Marshall Field’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.

She helped launch names such as Jimmy Choo in the USA, aided The Prince of Wales in launching his Duchy Originals organic foods in the USA and organised an art exhibit of HRH The Prince of Wales original watercolours at Saks Fifth Avenue. Today, Sackloff onsults to the International Fashion Industry and has been awarded an OBE for services to Fashion Exports. She was also a Director on The British Fashion Council and Chair of the International Committee on the British Fashion Council.

As Dame Zandra Rhodes reveals designs from her collections, emerging faces from Storm modelling agency will take to the catwalk during the voyage. Alongside these great fashion authorities, guests will also have the opportunity to meet the designers of the future, as students from the world’s number one postgraduate fashion programme, based in the world’s number one university of art and design, The Royal College of Art, showcase their latest collections on board.
