The 118th Regiment was organized at Plattsburg, [[Clinton County, New York#Military|Clinton County]], New York , and mustered in August 27, 1862.

It was also known as the Adirondack Regiment.They performed provost duty at Richmond and Manchester, Virginia until June, 1865. They were honorably discharged and  mustered out under Col. George F. Nichols, June 13, 1865, at Richmond, Virginia. The veterans and recruits were transferred to 96th New York Infantry.
