You’ll find all kinds of scholarships, grants, and financial aid are available, each with different eligibility requirements and processes to apply. There are many scholarships aimed specifically at those who plan to major in the STEM fields. Check out these ten STEM  scholarships to ease the financial burden of school and know that there are many more available with some research.

ASHRAE Undergraduate Engineering Scholarships

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers’ various scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing an engineering or engineering technology degree. From high school seniors through the rest of your time as an undergraduate, ASHRAE has different scholarships to fit different schools, regions, and ages. ASHRAE knows their undergraduate scholarship program supports the future leaders of the building industry.

ThomasNet North American Manufacturing Scholarship

Students who plan to major in engineering, supply chain management/business operations, or learn a skilled trade from the United States and Canada can apply for this scholarship which picks 30 winners. They say, “Filled with passion for their particular subject and armed with optimism and inspiration, every one of our scholarship-winning students is an opportunity to preview the new future of manufacturing.”

ACIL Academic Scholarships

The ACIL Scholarship Alliance, a division of the Independent Laboratories Institute, helps to ensure future generations of skilled employees for the laboratory testing community. These scholarships of up to $4,000 for upperclassmen helps keep qualified personnel in the industries of physics, chemistry, engineering, geology, biology, or environmental science. Scholarship awards are based on the applicant’s academic achievement, career goals, leadership, and financial need.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Scholarships 

The SHPE Foundation’s scholarship program awards merit- and need-based scholarships to Latino members of SHPE who are seniors in high school, undergraduate students or graduate students with an interest and aptitude for a career in a STEM field. In addition to undergraduate scholarships, there are also dissertation, professional, and corporate scholarships offered.

Society of Women Engineers Scholarships

The SWE awards scholarships each year to female undergraduate or graduate students in the United States and Mexico who are enrolled in accredited programs and wish to pursue a career in engineering, engineering technology, or computer science. In 2013, SWE disbursed over 200 new and renewed scholarships valued at over $550,000. Applicants complete one application and are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

Intel Science Talent Search

The talent search mathematics scholarships are offered to high school students and the amount awarded ranges from $7,500 to $100,000. One of the generous mathematics scholarships for women and men, the Intel programs are open to foreign exchange students and home-schooled students as well. Last year, Eric Chen of San Diego, CA won the top award for his research of potential new drugs to treat influenza.

Davidson Fellows Scholarships

Named one of the 10 Biggest Scholarships in the World by TheBestColleges.org, Davidson Fellows offers $50,000, $20,000, and $10,000 scholarships to high school students who have completed a portfolio or project related to science, math, technology, music, literature, or philosophy. Davidson Fellows are honored every year in Washington, D.C. with Congressional meetings and a special reception.

Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Scholarship

This program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at the U.S. Department of Defense. The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship offers students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in STEM disciplines full scholarships and employment at the agency upon degree completion.

Gilman Scholarships

Think you can’t afford to go abroad during college? The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad in an attempt to diversify the students who go abroad during their academic career. Eligible undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university are encouraged to apply.

National Society of High School Scholars Foundation Scholarships

NSHSS recognizes that “in order to increase diversity in the technology workforce, we must increase diversity in technology undergraduates.” They offer scholarships for those pursuing a degree in a long list of fields, from aeronautical and astronautical engineering to geosciences to oceanography.
