Our bathroom reno is getting close to starting. Hubby is picking up the building permit today, and then it’s demo time – WOOT! We have the toilet, tub, sinks, faucets, and floor tiles, and the shower tiles, in-floor heating system, and lighting have been ordered. I knew all along that I wanted a bubble-style chandelier. This is the one we chose. Actually, we’re going to hang two – it’s not a big fixture (about 12”D x 28”L):

Thanks to everyone who commented on last week’s floor tile layout debate. It took a bit of persuading, but I convinced hubby to go with… #6! Looks like it gets Squirt’s paw print of approval too :-)
The accent tiles that we were planning to buy are out of stock and won’t be back in stock for at least three months, so we chose a different Bianco Carrara marble mosaic for the strips between the porcelain tiles.
This week is a tough one – the tub filler isn’t wall-mounted, so we need to build a niche in the wall to where the faucet will be installed. Hubby keeps asking me to decide if I want one long horizontal niche behind the tub, or one tall vertical niche in the center of the tub wall, or one small niche for the faucet with two vertical niches on each side. So the question is…

Imagine a faucet centered in this horizontal niche:

Our layout with the vertical niches would be slightly different than both of these options, because as I mentioned, the faucet needs to be installed in a niche. But I hope you get the idea!
The wood shelf in the next picture would actually be my first choice before either a horizontal or vertical niche, but hubby’s not going for it. Booo! However, sometimes when majority rules, he can be swayed :-)

Would love to hear your thoughts on horizontal vs. vertical. And if you like the wood shelf best, let me know!
I like the wood shelf the best ...
ReplyDeleteBut if I had to pick horizontal or vertical niches, then (here's the surprise) I much prefer the vertical. I find the horizontal ones are limited to what you put inside because of height and they tend to look a bit more cluttered. But the vertical ones are more 'open' and can be a bit more practical especially if a glass shelf is added. I LOVE the lighting choice. ~Diane by the sea
V v H - well they both look great - will wood stand the test of time in a "wet" room though ????
ReplyDeleteI think I'm more into the horizontal niche, but my first choice would definitely be the wood shelf. :) I love the chandelier you chose as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the wood shelf... Wouldn't it compliment a shower bench beautifully? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like the wood shelf as well. But if my choice was only with the horizontal versus vertical I think I would choose the vertical, just looks cleaner, I think.
ReplyDeleteI don't like picture one,but love picture 2. It also feels a bit more modern,so I guess it's what kind of overall feel you are trying to go for!

Wood shelf! Wood shelf!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes to wood shelving!
ReplyDeleteWoot! More votes for the wood shelf!

OK really, does it matter which choice on this, since both options are stunning?!! I'm refusing to vote because I'm so jealous you get to pick either of these. Ha. ;) Looking forward to the conclusion!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for a wood shelf and I would have to say vertical lines :)
ReplyDeleteI'm out numbered here...but I really like the horizontal!
ReplyDeleteRe the lighting fixture, ha thought of you immediately when I was in LL (on Merivale) the other day and spotted a chandie that had bubbles. Said to self, "Kelly would love that". It was beautiful BTW and similar to what you have chosen.
ReplyDeleteRe the shelf, I dunno but you may want to take into consideration .... how much you are planning to 'splish splash' in that gorgeous tub of yours particularly if it is a horizontal run and made of wood. ºÜº

Ohhhhh, I'm all about the horizontal for some reason ... but whatever you go with will be totally fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice article, this is a great overall post on the interior design.
