The explosive interview of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by Oprah Winfrey on Sunday night drew a massive audience to CBS.
The two-hour broadcast attracted approximately 17.18 million viewers and a 1.45 rating in the adults – the largest primetime audience since the Academy Awards in February last year.
It was also the largest audience for any entertainment special during the 2020-2021 season and was CBS’ most live-streamed event this season outside of the NFL and Super Bowl Sunday.
The sit-down talk saw Oprah bringing her journalistic side to the fore asking some frank questions that delivered some explosive revelations of what went on in the palace, including talk of one senior royal family member who “expressed concerns over the skin tone of her then-unborn child” to Markle dealing with her own depression and suicidal thoughts.
The full interview can be watched on the CBS website. Surprisingly the interview will NOT be on the newly launched Paramount+ service as Winfrey’s production company has the streaming rights to the special.
