phpBB is an efficient, feature-rich, and user-friendly open source application for building and maintaining online forums.  phpBB is incredibly easy to install using Installatron, and we’ve created a tutorial with screenshots to guide you through each step of the installation process.Login to your cPanel and type “softaculous” in the find box.  The Softaculous icon will appear to the right of the box.

Click on the Softaculous icon.   On the next page, type ‘phpbb’ in the search box at the top of the page and press enter.

Next, click the Install button.

On the next page, you will need to configure your installation.

The Software Setup section allows you to control various aspects of your phpBB installation.  The Choose Protocol dropdown allows you to configure the URL you want people to use to access your site, such as https:// for sites with SSL certificates  and http:// for sites without SSLs.

The Choose Domain dropdown allows you to choose where you install phpBB.  If you have multiple domains in your cPanel account, then you will need to select the desired domain from the Choose Domain dropdown.

If you want people to be able to access your phpBB installation by simply visiting your domain name, then leave the In Directory field blank.  However, if you want people to access your phpBB installation by visiting a URL like www.yourdomain.com/forum, then you should type forum in the In Directory field.

Unless you need your database to have a specific name, you can use the default name in the Database Name field.

The Board Settings section allows you to add the name and description of your forum, your email address. and table prefix.  The name and description of your forum will be displayed on your site, web browsers, and in search engine results.  You can update this information later via the admin area of your site.  Unless you need your table to have a specific prefix, you can use the default value in the Table Prefix field.

The Admin Account section allows you to configure various aspects of your admin account.

You can enter the username, password, and email address for the admin area of your phpBB site.  Please do not use “admin” or “administrator” as the username for the admin area of your site, as this will make your installation vulnerable to hackers.  Also, please choose a strong password for the admin area of your site to help make your website as secure as possible.  Make a note of your username and password; you will use these details to login to the admin area of your site.  The admin email address for your site is where all messages regarding updates, password resets, etc. will be sent.

If you want your site’s admin area to be in a language other than English, then you can select your desired language from the Choose Language dropdown.

Finally, click the Install button to install phpBB.

Once you’ve successfully installed phpBB, you will be able to login to the admin area by following the steps listed on the installation page.
