Christer Björkman the Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 has joined the Core Team for this years contest in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Christer Björkman the man behind the revamp of Melodifestivalen and the producer of last years Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine has joined the Core Team for this years contest. Mr Björkman joins the team working on this years contest exactly a week after 21 members of the organising team for the contest quit. Responding to the new job role, Christer added:

I’m thrilled to be back, working on what is surely the world’s premier music event.  I look forward to collaborating with the wonderful team at UA:PBC and I’m sure together we will produce the best contest yet!

With Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Jon Ola Sand, saying:

It is pleasing to see these positive steps being taken in the staffing of the core team for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. For example, the appointment of Christer Björkman adds to what is already an excellent production team, and his experience producing the Eurovision Song Contest over several years will be invaluable. Now, with many key positions filled, it is important that the EBU and UA:PBC continue to implement the plans already agreed, and work to the timeline and milestones that were established and approved by the Reference Group to ensure a successful Contest in May.

Also announced as joining the core team for this years contest were  Larysa Koval as Commercial Director, she has previously worked on both the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 and the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009. Oleh Zapadniuk as Head of Security, he worked as part of UEFA Euro 2012 when Ukraine jointly hosted the contest with Poland and Kyrylo Voronin as Event Manager.

A total of 43 countries are to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Returning to the Eurovision stage are Portugal and Romania who both took a year out from the contest. Bosnia & Herzegovina has however withdrawn from the contest due to financial difficulties at the national broadcaster, BHRT. The 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held on the following dates:

Semi Final 1 – 9 May

Semi Final 2 – 11 May

Final – 13 May
