Francesco Gabbani has won the 67th edition of Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo tonight in Italy, beating off 15 other artists.
Italy has spoken and Francesco Gabbani has been crowned the winner of the 67th edition of Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo. Francesco has confirmed that he wishes to participate in the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. He will now be hoping to bring the contest back to Italy for the first time since 1991.

The winner in the final round of the competition was selected by 30% Demoscopic Poll, 30% Expert Jury and 40% Public Televote. The three finalists and the results are as follows:

Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest
Italy debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has participated a total of 42 times to date. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having last participated in the contest in 1997, the country has withdrawn from the contest on a number of occasions in the past. Italy has won the contest twice, the first time being in 1964 and the latest being in 1990. Ital’s hosting of the contest in 1991 has been remembered as one of the most chaotic contests to date. Since their return in 2011 Italy has finished in the top.10 on four occasions.
